I still have numerous large bins of my 3 kids art work . Yep, I can personally verify that painted macaroni can remain glued to a paper plate for 28 years! These bins have travelled all over remote northern Canada with us on our various moves. I work with families with young children and I recommend they take a photo of the masterpieces before throwing them out. There are apps for storing photos of kids art on,or just create a personal file, year by year for each child. It's on my to-do list to empty and photograph my own kids stuff. They are all boys in the second half of their 20's, who could care less about their childhood arts and crafts- it's me that is attached to it all. I love your advice about connecting with your child when they show you their masterpiece. So important!

I'm pretty much on par with the paper clutter, I deal with it immediately, the minute it enters my home. Love the memory boxes for the girls Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦

Great advice! I have similar practices. However, I had a few short periods of my life when I wasn’t as diligent about weeding, dealing with, and getting rid of kid paper. I just put it in a box to deal with later and now I’m getting around to it. Although I know I did my best at the time, man it would be great if I had just done in the moment. Motivates me to stay on top of it now for sure! Live and learn. Bonus- the kids and I have had some great laughs as we’ve rediscovered a few treasured pieces. Fourth grade writing- hysterical!

There were some cringe-worthy laughs and looks when the girls were rediscovering their work from not that long ago.

Paper clutter is definitely one of the elements that gives me a twitch. We are the same in that as soon as I walk through the door with the mail it gets sorted and the recyclables get walked right to the bin. Bills have a handy little holder right beside the computer and we organize them by date due. Kids art work, it's a lot! We have a Grade 1 and 4 in our house and the youngest is the artist and brings home loads of work. We ooooh and aaaah over it and then I take a photo with my phone and then recycle. At the end of the year I make a little photo book with everything that's been collected over the course of the year. We keep the really important stuff such as Mother's Day and Father's Day items in a small bin under their beds. :)

I love the idea of taking a photo of the art, before getting rid of it.
I keep the shredder next to the trash can in my kitchen. Paper goes straight from the mailbox to the trash/shredder. Otherwise it piles up on the kitchen counter.,

Go back to the source for anything you can and switch it to electronic. Get your bills, newsletters, advertising material or anything you subscribe to by email or notification. Another one is to put a sign up on your letterbox saying no junk mail to eliminate unaddressed mail you just throw into the recycling immediately anyway.

Jinxie, right on cue. I have a cat that "helps" with any paper, important or junk, by his version of "fold, spindle, and mutilate" then alk away in great satisfaction. This home's version of "The dog ate my homework."

I think Angela needs to change it to "thanks for joining me and Jinixe". I always look out for him now
