US Mines & Mineral Resources: "United States: A Ten Talent Nation" 1922 American Motion Picture

13:24
Geology & Earth Sciences playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL33B1A9216BB65F7A more at http://scitech.quickfound.net Good overview of mining and mineral resources in the US as of 1922, with many nice film clips and lots of statistics. Reupload of a previously uploaded film with improved video & sound. Originally a public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mining Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Mining is the extraction of valuable minerals or other geological materials from the earth from an orebody, lode, vein, seam, or reef, which forms the mineralized package of economic interest to the miner. Ores recovered by mining include metals, coal and oil shale, gemstones, limestone, and dimension stone, rock salt and potash, gravel, and clay. Mining is required to obtain any material that cannot be grown through agricultural processes, or created artificially in a laboratory or factory. Mining in a wider sense includes extraction of any non-renewable resource such as petroleum, natural gas, or even water. Mining of stone and metal has been done since pre-historic times. Modern mining processes involve prospecting for ore bodies, analysis of the profit potential of a proposed mine, extraction of the desired materials, and final reclamation of the land after the mine is closed. The nature of mining processes creates a potential negative impact on the environment both during the mining operations and for years after the mine is closed. This impact has led to most of the world's nations adopting regulations to moderate the negative effects of mining operations. Safety has long been a concern as well, and modern practices have improved safety in mines significantly... Mining in the United States became prevalent in the 19th century, and the General Mining Act of 1872 was passed to encourage mining of federal lands. As with the California Gold Rush in the mid 19th century, mining for minerals and precious metals, along with ranching, was a driving factor in the Westward Expansion to the Pacific coast. With the exploration of the West, mining camps were established and "expressed a distinctive spirit, an enduring legacy to the new nation;" Gold Rushers would experience the same problems as the Land Rushers of the transient West that preceded them. Aided by railroads, many traveled West for work opportunities in mining. Western cities such as Denver and Sacramento originated as mining towns. As new areas were explored, it was usually the gold (placer and then load) and then silver that were taken first, with other metals often waiting for railroads or canals. Coarse gold dust and nuggets do not require smelting, is easy to identify and is easily transported. Modern period In the early 20th century, the gold and silver rush to the western United States also stimulated mining for base metals such as copper, lead, and iron as well as coal. Areas in modern Montana, Utah, Arizona, and later Alaska became predominate suppliers of copper to the world, which was increasingly demanding copper for electrical and households goods. Canada's mining industry grew more slowly than the United States due to limitations in transportation, capital, and U.S. competition; Ontario was the major producer of the early 20th century with nickel, copper, and gold. Meanwhile, Australia experienced the Australian gold rushes and by the 1850s was producing 40% of the world's gold, followed by the establishment of large mines such as the Mount Morgan Mine, which ran for nearly a hundred years, Broken Hill ore deposit (one of the largest zinc-lead ore deposits), and iron ore mines at Iron Knob. After declines in production, another boom in mining occurred in the 1960s and in the 21st century Australia remains a major world mineral producer. Into the 21st century, a globalized mining industry of large multinational corporations has arisen. Peak minerals and environmental impacts have also become a concern. Different elements, particularly rare earth minerals, have begun to increase in demand as a result of new technologies...

The (uncomfortable) truth of HR and leadership development | Patrick Vermeren | TEDxKMA

19:28
Quackery and pseudoscience can be very dangerous. Not only in medicine but also in human resources. Alarmed by the nonsensical ideas of Transactional Analysis, Patrick Vermeren set out on a mission to reveal the truth about the many HR theories, models and questionnaires. The academic literature revealed that most HR practices (in recruitment, assessment, development, coaching…) are very problematic and some even dangerous. In this Talk valid alternatives are presented. Patrick Vermeren has been active as a consultant, trainer and coach since 1996. He built on his experience at major Belgian banks ( Cera and Dexia) and an American multinational ( Procter & Gamble). Since he joined Perco he advises HR professionals and he guides groups and individuals in the areas of leadership, coaching and facilitating decision making in groups ( participation). He also assists CEOs, managers and high potentials through training and personal coaching. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

2017-12-07 | Accessing Capital Resources for Rural Single Family Homes Development

58:17
This webinar provides an overview of the single-family housing landscape and what single family housing programs are available. It includes information on the HUD Section 184 Program, USDA 502 Direct and Guaranteed Loans, VA Direct Loans and more. For many organizations operating in rural areas, they are the only organization serving the community’s affordable housing needs. Without their continued efforts in the community, there would not be any affordable housing or other community development activities. Organizations in these communities need guidance on how to access available financing programs and capacity building for leveraging these sources (LIHTC, HOME, AHP, Trust Funds) for creating new housing. The webinar is led by Russell Kaney, the Director for the National Rural & Native American Initiative. Russell leads Enterprise’s national efforts on providing direct assistance to CDCs, CHDOs, Tribes and Tribally Designated Housing Entities. The capacity building and technical assistance provided by Enterprise helps these organizations develop their towns, build their communities and weaves together the social fabric of the rural landscape into vibrant places to work, live and play.

Superior Lake Resources Ltd (ASX:SUP) Restart Study Outlines Low Cost Zinc Operation

04:42
Superior Lake Resources (ASX:SUP) has released details of a restart study for its Superior Lake zinc project ('the Project') in Canada. Highlights of the announcement include the following. - Restart study confirms robust economics forecast: o post-tax net present value 10% - US$158 million; o low all in sustaining operating costs ('AISC') - US$0.51/lb (lowest global cost quartile); o low initial capital costs - US$75 million. - Initial mine life 6.5 years, with excellent potential to increase - exploration target 2.1 to 5.2 Mt grading between 13.3% and 15.4% Zn. - Annual average concentrate production of 88,000 tpa Zn and 6,700 tpa Cu. - Fully funded definitive feasibility study commenced - due for completion mid-2019. Analyst comment: this is a strong result for SUP, given that it took control of the Project less than 12 months ago. The standout feature of the study was the low AISC of US$0.51/lb (C1 cost US$0.39/lb), which ranks the Project in the lowest cost quartile of zinc producers globally. It ensures that the Project will remain profitable in the future, even if the zinc price deteriorates (current spot - US$1.21/lb), which appears unlikely in the near term in that zinc stockpiles remain at near record lows, with limited new supply forecast to enter the market. Virtual site trip: we recently visited the Project in Canada and were impressed. As expected, the surrounding infrastructure is world-class. Moreover, existing development at the site, which will be utilised in the future, has keep capital costs relatively low for a project of this type. We encourage investors to view our virtual site trip by visiting http://thesophisticatedinvestor.com.au Valuation: in light of the restart study, we have provided an initial valuation target for SUP of $0.12 / share (share price $0.045 / share). We determined this valuation by via a DCF valuation on the Superior Lake project at a discount rate of 10%. For more details of the key assumptions underlying our valuation, watch the attached video.

It is located on the Pacific coast, with Washington to the north, California to the south, Nevada on the southeast and Idaho to the east. The Columbia and Snake rivers delineate much of Oregon's northern and eastern boundaries, respectively. The area was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before the arrival of traders, explorers, and settlers who formed an autonomous government in Oregon Country in 1843. The Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Oregon is the 9th most expansive and the 27th most populous of the 50 United States. Salem is the state's capital and third-most-populous city; Portland is the most populous. Portland is the 28th-largest U.S. city, with a population of 603,106 (2012 estimate) and a metro population of 2,262,605 (2011 estimate), the 23rd-largest U.S. metro area. The valley of the Willamette River in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area and is home to eight of the ten most populous cities. Oregon contains a diverse landscape including the windswept Pacific coastline, the volcanoes of the rugged and glaciated Cascade Mountain Range, many waterfalls (including Multnomah Falls), dense evergreen forests, mixed forests and deciduous forests at lower elevations, and high desert across much of the eastern portion of the state, extending into the Great Basin. The tall Douglas firs and redwoods along the rainy Western Oregon coast contrast with the lower density and fire-prone pine tree and juniper forests covering portions of the eastern half of the state. Alder trees are common in the west and fix nitrogen for the conifers; aspen groves are common in eastern Oregon. Stretching east from Central Oregon, the state also includes semi-arid shrublands, prairies, deserts, steppes, and meadows. Mount Hood is the highest point in the state at 11,249 feet (3,429 m). Crater Lake National Park is the only national park in Oregon... Tourism Tourism is also a strong industry in the state. Oregon's mountains, forests, waterfalls, lakes (including Crater Lake National Park), and beaches draw visitors year round. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, held in Ashland, is a tourist draw for Southern Oregon. Oregon is home to many breweries and Portland has the largest number of breweries of any city in the world. Oregon occasionally hosts film shoots. Movies filmed in Oregon include: Animal House, Free Willy, The General, The Goonies, Kindergarten Cop, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Stand By Me... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Parks_and_Recreation_Department The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD), officially known (in state law) as the State Parks and Recreation Department, is the government agency of the U.S. state of Oregon which operates its system of state parks.... The department was created in 1921 as a branch of the Oregon Highway Department (predecessor to the present-day Oregon Department of Transportation). The 1989 Oregon Legislative Assembly transferred authority to a newly created department under its current name effective January 1, 1990. Oregon parks attract more than 42 million visitors annually, ranking fifth in the U.S. in number of day-use park visitors, and eighth in number of overnight visitors. 7.5 percent of lottery revenues in Oregon are dedicated to state and local parks, leading to new park acquisitions and a reduced backlog of maintenance at existing parks. Nevertheless, Oregon ranks 30th in the nation in state park acreage per 1,000 people. At the same time it ranks second nationally for the number of park visitors per acre, indicating that the state's limited area of parks are intensively used.

US To Provide India Resources, Technology For Security Vice President Mike Pence

02:19
The United States will help the Indian armed forces to obtain the resources and technology they need to support security in the region, Vice President Mike Pence has said. "You need look no further than yesterday's announcement that the United States will sell Sea Guardian UAVs, Apache attack helicopters, and C-17 transports to India," he said. Pence said the process to approve the sale was underway and expressed hope that it would "accurately" reflect commitment to mutual security among both the nations and the importance of their partnership for security. "A first-rate global power needs a first-rate military, and the United States will continue to enable the Indian armed forces to obtain the resources and technology it needs to protect the Indian people and support security in the region," Pence told members of the US India Council in a keynote address. Pence said the US and India can deepen their ties in many industries and areas and asked India to enact the necessary economic reforms to ensure that the bilateral trade relationship is both "fair and reciprocal". He said India and the US are strong partners in the fight against terrorism. "Like the United States, India is too familiar with the grave danger posed by radical Islamic terrorists," he said yesterday. "These barbarians have struck on Indian soil too many times over the decades, including the horrific attacks in Mumbai nearly a decade ago, claiming the lives of more than 160 innocents, including six Americans," Pence said. "The United States and India already collaborate to a significant extent. But in the face of terror networks that are ever-more sophisticated, ever-more dispersed, we will continue to take renewed action to facilitate two-way information and intelligence sharing to confront this threat," he said. Resources Based View of Business Strategy

06:11
Buy my book today! http://bit.ly/bestbrandingbook Check out my Podcast: https://anchor.fm/caffeinated-content Contact me: http://www.edwindearborn.com/contact/ Connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/edwindearborn/ According to the resource-based view of strategic management, a firm can gain a competitive advantage by gaining access to strategic resources. This begs the question of what a strategic resource is. When developing a firm's strategy, managers should understand the three basic strategic resources and how they can be used. Human Resources A firm's human resources are, quite simply, the employees that it has at its disposal. Having the right employees can provide firms with a competitive advantage. For example, a firm may recruit the best and brightest scientists for its research and development department or the top business school graduates for its management team. Firms need to manage their human resources, both by recruiting the kind of employees that they need and by retaining their best staff. Capital Resources Capital resources are resources that a company uses in the production of goods such as factories and equipment. Capital resources can provide a firm with a competitive edge in the marketplace. For instance, if a firm has specialized equipment that allows it to produce goods more efficiently, its production will be faster and less costly than the competitors. Capital resources can be expensive and time-consuming to obtain, making it difficult for competitors to gain them. Natural Resources Natural resources are resources that naturally exist in the environment, such as oil, fresh water, minerals or arable land. Natural resources cannot be created, so a firm has an advantage if it operates in a country where these resource exist. Firms can obtain natural resources, however, by entering new countries. For example, many foreign oil companies have entered Middle Eastern countries to access their oil reserves. Managing Resources To be successful, firms must manage and balance all three strategic resources. It is not enough to have access to just one resource. For example, if a lumber company has access to the natural resource it needs -- forests -- it still needs capital resources to manufacture the lumber and skilled workers (human resources) to harvest the trees and mill the lumber. Although some strategic resources may be more important for specific companies, they must remember to invest in other strategic resources as well. What is 'Brand Equity' Brand equity refers to a value premium that a company generates from a product with a recognizable name, when compared to a generic equivalent. Companies can create brand equity for their products by making them memorable, easily recognizable, and superior in quality and reliability. Mass marketing campaigns also help to create brand equity.
