Just a quick walk through of the possible causes of signal lights not working and fixes for the 1986 Nissan-D21
This is my first video of this type, so please excuse any errors I might have made! lol
1: I'd initially changed the turn signal switch, but it wasn't the issue.
2: Then I changed the turn signal switch relay (I thinks that's what it's called?!) that's right by the clutch. Still nothing. (it wasn't too big an issue as the parts were inexpensive.) :)
3: I'd already replaced the old fuses with new ones, so that wasn't the cause. All the other main relays were also good.
4: Hazard switch. This ended up being the cause of the signal lights not working. The older Nissan Hard bodys seem to commonly have this issue, that being if the Hazard switch goes out, it in turn affects the signal lights!
Fortunately for me, all I had to do was remove the Hazard switch (take care when removing this switch as you don't want to accidentally damage it), then take it apart (be careful at this stage as there's a tiny metal ball or bearing that's on the inside of the switch. I almost completely missed it and dropped it a few times. It's pressed up against a tiny spring type of mechanism and it needs to be put back in place once you're done cleaning the inner connections.) and clean the connections as they were quite filthy. I used WD-40 (as that's what I had on hand) but if you have a better cleaning agent....
Anyhow, I cleaned the switch multiple times and let it dry over night. I reconnected the Hazard switch the next morning (turn signal lights are working!) :)
So, if you're having the same issues...try these methods and hopefully you'll get your signal lights back to working. Good Luck:)
