Asset Management: Industry Overview and Careers in Asset Management

04:45
Asset Management: Industry overview and Careers in Asset Management Asset Management is about managing clients’ investments and providing them with the strategies and expertise that would allow them to achieve their goals and secure their financial future. This video is part of our series dedicated to the different sub-industries in the world of Business & Finance. Our goal is to understand how it functions, what type of services it offers its clients, which are the major players in the field and what it is like to do this for a living. An individual or an institution is likely to approach an asset management firm when their investment income is substantial. In such cases, asset managers are able to offer expertise across a wide spectrum of asset classes (such as stocks, bonds, commodities, real estate, private equity, etc). Moreover, large firms have branches all over the world and are therefore able to offer geographical expertise as well. Given that asset managers closely follow all of these markets, they are able to offer high-quality advice and superior risk-return investments. The large players in the asset management industry are indeed very large. There are several companies whose assets under management exceed $1 trillion. Some of them are pure investment funds (BlackRock, Vanguard, StateStreet, Fidelity), while others are arms of the large banking conglomerates (Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, UBS, BNP). The largest firm in the world in terms of assets under management in 2015 was BlackRock. Operational Risk Management in Financial Services

08:30
Operational risk can have a crippling effect on a company if not managed properly. This is especially true in the financial services industry. Banks and investment firms must pay close attention to variables that have the potential to impact their operations, not only from the breakdown of technology and processes, but also from a personnel perspective. The responsibility of managing one's money is great, and the inability to properly anticipate and manage potential risk factors can have a devastating effect, all the way up to the industry level. A case in point was the subprime mortgage crisis of the late 2000s, which led to a nationwide economic recession. Mike Pinedo, the Julius Schlesinger Professor of Operations Management at New York University's Stern School of Business, is an expert in risk management research, particularly in the context of the financial services industry. In his presentation at The Boeing Center's 13th annual Meir Rosenblatt Memorial Lecture, he described the main types of primary risks in a financial services company: market risk, credit risk, and operational risk. Ops risk, which is the risk of a loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, or external events, may be the most important factor, he claimed. _________________________________________________________________________________________ For access to exclusive digital content, events, cutting-edge research, and professional training, download our mobile app → https://bit.ly/bcsci-app

I have tried to cover the basic paths however you should know that people with finance backgrounds have ended up in all different types of jobs. Understanding what is required to get to specific careers is important as some paths require different degrees and experiences. These increase the costs associated with these paths and should be considered when reviewing compensation and job responsibilities. 1) Private Equity (Usually investment banking experience is required) 2) Hedge Fund (Usually investment banking experience is required) 3) Investment Banking (Undergrad required) 4) Wealth Management (Undergrad required) 5) Corporate Finance (Undergrad required) 6) Technology Jobs (Non-coding jobs and undergrad required) 7) Consulting (Undergrad required) 8) Business Development/Sales (Undergrad required) 9) If you work hard you could end up in more quantitative jobs such as operational research but usually more quantitative course work or experience is required. "We are particularly proud of how our combined JPI and RF teams completed the project on time and on budget and are very pleased with all the guidance RealFoundations provided," stated Beth Beach, Vice President of Financial Services, JPI. "It is hard to imagine us achieving these timelines without the benefit of RealFoundations." This implementation was one of the smoothest with which RealFoundations has been involved. Their name comes from the fact that early hedge funds (and some current ones) tried to "hedge" their exposure to the market (so they could, in theory, do well in an "up" or "down" market as long as they were good at picking the good companies). Today, hedge funds represent a huge class investment funds. They are far less regulated than, say, mutual funds. In exchange for this, they aren't allowed to market or take investments from "unsophisticated" investors. Some use their flexibility to mitigate risk, other use it to amplify it. About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. LLC Operating Agreement (template + instructions)

13:09
Operating Agreement Download (Word Doc): https://www.llcuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/Free-LLC-Operating-Agreement-v1.1.doc Operating Agreement Download (PDF): https://www.llcuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/Free-LLC-Operating-Agreement-v1.1.pdf Operating Agreement Download (Google Docs): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W8Fc-ksM4YQ8hAYWSE0yBLJQ0FyG1dJJuP6ZUod5fp0/copy Our website: https://www.llcuniversity.com [=================================] -- WHAT IS AN LLC OPERATING AGREEMENT? -- An Operating Agreement is an agreement for the member(s) of your LLC that sets forth how the LLC will be managed both financially and operationally. Your Operating Agreement also spells out how much of the LLC each member owns. You can have 1 member who owns 100%, you can have 2 members with a 50/50 split, 60/40, 70/30 (anything really!), or you can have 3 or more members and you can split the ownership any way you’d like. The LLC is a flexible business structure. There is no limit on the number of members you can have. And, there are no restrictions on how you split the ownership of the company. [=================================] -- OPERATING AGREEMENT IS AN “INTERNAL DOCUMENT” Unlike your LLC Formation Documents, the Operating Agreement does not need to be mailed anywhere. You do not need to mail it to the State. You do not need to mail it to the IRS. It is strictly an “internal document”. This means that you will just keep a copy with your other business documents. [=================================] -- PURPOSE OF THE LLC OPERATING AGREEMENT -- Again, the purpose of the Operating Agreement is to spell out who the member(s) are and what percentage of the LLC they own, also known as their “membership interest”. It also defines how the LLC is managed, how taxes are paid, and how profits and losses are distributed amongst the member(s). Remember, your LLC can be owned by one person (called a Single-Member LLC) or your LLC can be owned by 2 or more people (called a Multi-Member LLC). [=================================] -- WHAT YOU NEED FOR YOUR LLC OPERATING AGREEMENT -- In order to complete your Operating Agreement, you will need some basic information. • The formation date of your LLC. • The name and address of the Registered Office and Registered Agent. • The general business purpose of the LLC. • Member(s) percentages of ownership. • Names of the Members and their addresses. Your final Operating Agreement is not “set in stone”. You can make changes as needed. [=================================] -- MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR LLC OPERATING AGREEMENT -- One of the benefits of forming an LLC is the flexibility of managing your business. The Operating Agreement is a working document that is meant to be fluid and allow for changes as your business grows. If you want to make simple changes (such as a change of address for a member or changing your Registered Office or Registered Agent), you’ll need to revise the original Operating Agreement. If, however, you need to make complex changes (for example one member purchases the interests of another member, or you decide to raise financing with investors), it is best to hire an attorney. Making changes like these can have negative legal and tax consequences if done incorrectly. Once all changes are made, you’ll need to print the new Operating Agreement and have all of the members sign it. It is best practice to keep a copy of all versions of your Operating Agreement so you have a history of the changes that were made. [=================================] -- WHO NEEDS YOUR LLC OPERATING AGREEMENT? -- You may need to provide a copy of your Operating Agreement to: • A lender if you are obtaining financing • A title company if you are purchasing real estate • Accounting and tax professionals for financial assistance • Lawyers for legal advice • Potential investors or partners who have an interest in your business [=================================] -- OPERATING AGREEMENT PROTECTS YOUR ASSETS -- If you’re involved in a legal battle, the Court will likely ask for your LLC’s Operating Agreement. Having one can help prove to the Court that you have a legitimate LLC and that you are running your business properly. If the Courts were to find you running an LLC without an Operating Agreement, they may go after your personal assets. [=================================] -- DISCLAIMER -- This information is provided for educational purposes only and in no way constitutes legal, tax, or financial advice. For legal, tax, or financial advice specific to your business needs, we encourage you to consult with a licensed attorney and/or CPA in your state. Fundamentals of Upstream Oil and Gas

09:23
Oil 101 - A FREE Introduction to the Oil and Gas Industry I this first of 10 modules, we introduce the learner to some key fundamentals of the Upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. The full Oil 101 course includes: +Introduction to Upstream +Introduction to Midstream +Introduction to Downstream +Introduction to Exploration +Introduction to Drilling +Introduction to Production +Introduction to Natural Gas +Introduction to Refining +Introduction to Supply and Trading +Introduction to Petroleum Product Marketing Learn More about Oil 101: http://www.ektinteractive.com/ http://www.ektinteractive.com/oil-101/ So, What is Upstream? Most oil and gas companies’ business structures are organized according to business segment, assets, or function. The upstream segment of oil and gas is also known as exploration and production, or E&P because it encompasses activities related to searching for, recovering, and producing crude oil and natural gas. Upstream is all about wells, where to locate them; how deep and how far to drill them; and how to design, construct, operate and manage them to deliver the greatest possible return on investment with the lightest, safest and smallest operational footprint. In fact, the E&P sector should probably be called the EDP sector - because “you can’t find oil if you don’t drill wells.” Exploration Obtaining the Lease Let’s start with exploration which involves the operator obtaining a lease and permission to drill from the owner of onshore or offshore acreage thought to contain oil or gas. Then the operator must conduct geological and geophysical surveys to select the first well site to explore for, and hopefully find, economic accumulations of oil or gas. This well is often called a “wildcat well.” Drilling is physically creating the “borehole” in the ground that will eventually become a productive oil or gas well. This work is typically done by rig contractors and service companies in the Oilfield Services business sector. On a wellsite, there can be as many as 30-40 different service contractors providing expertise to the operator. Wells can be relatively simple or unbelievably complex. Wells can totally vertical for miles or both deep and horizontal. There are also highly complex “J” and “S” configured wells with numerous branches, or laterals, emanating from the original, or “mother”, hole. These are called “deviated wells.” Production Finally, let’s discuss production, where reserves are “converted to cash” by maximizing the recovery of hydrocarbons from subsurface reservoirs. Essentially, production is efficiently bringing the hydrocarbons to the surface and treating them as needed to make them marketable. So that’s the basics of E&P. We will drill deeper into each of these operations in the complete Oil 101 course at a later date. Now, let’s talk about unconventional resources, clearly the hottest topic in oil and gas over the last decade. Unconventional Future of Oil and Gas Unconventional resources are defined as any resource extracted, or produced, by any method other than the traditional vertical or slightly deviated well. The three main sources of technological breakthroughs that have made unconventional developments profitable include: Horizontal drilling Hydraulic fracturing Subsea engineering (especially deep water production)
