It’s about taking action in ways that will lead to the greatest return. Having worked intimately with hundreds of organizations over the past 10 years as a trusted advisor, I get to see what really works. It’s not what you might expect. In this video, I’m going to share five insanely simple ideas about how to increase sales. Check it out: 1. Toss out the features and benefits. Your prospects are sick of hearing all about your products and services. Instead, simply focus on the results you achieve, as this is what your prospects actually care about. 2. Ask for one referral each day. Now I know that may sound like a lot of work, but realistically it’s no more than 10 minutes of work each day. Plus, there is no easier way to grow your sales. Just think about the math: Asking for one referral or introduction each day means five per week; that’s 250 introduction-asks per year! 3. Host a private client event. People love to come to exclusive events. Invite both your top clients and some of your top prospects. You’ll see that your top prospects will actually end up doing your selling for you. 4. Create client case studies. There’s nothing—and I mean nothing—more compelling to a prospect than an example of your past success. Develop case studies that focus on results you’ve created with your clients—not so much on the deliverables, but on what you actually accomplished. 5. Use a proposal with three options. Stop proposing just one option. This is the reason that you’re getting shopped around on price and limiting the possible size of a sale. Your prospects want options, so use proposals with three of them, ranging from a low-end, least expensive option, all the way up to the premium option with massive added value. By doing this, you’ll give your prospects the perspective to see what’s out there, and you’ll also give them the opportunity to choose the highest-end option with the most value—and that means the biggest sale for you. Tip #1: Focus on one product. You do not need to be selling millions of products like Amazon to do well. I met a lady who makes high heels more comfortable selling insoles. She has one product, and that's it. Do you know how much she makes? Well into the seven figures per year. You don't need a lot of products to do well. If you're on Shopify, you can use Oberlo, and that'll help make it, so you don't have to worry about the logistics. If you're only doing one product, your life becomes so much easier. Focus on one product that solves a pain point. #2: Upsell and downsell. It's easier to get someone who has bought from you once to spend more money with you than it is to get new people to buy from you. If you're selling insoles that make women's shoes nice and comfortable, your upsell could be a pack of three instead of just one. That's an easy upsell. Doing simple things like that will increase your lifetime value, which will open up more possibilities. #3: Advertise. Facebook advertising and Google AdWords both work extremely well in e-commerce marketing. Facebook ads and Google ads are a great way to boost your e-commerce sales, and you if you're not sure where to get started with Facebook ads or Google ads, leave a comment below and I'll answer you, and I'll give you feedback on how to run the perfect Facebook ad campaign or a Google AdWords campaign. #4: Leverage subscriptions. Make sure you offer subscription options. For example, if you're selling makeup or lipstick, people are gonna run out of it. The question is just when? So why not give them an option where they can subscribe and continually get new makeup? If you're using Shopify, you can use a tool called Recharge to make your product a subscription. #5: Recover abandoned shoppers. In 2017, roughly 75.6% of shopping carts were abandoned. So, you need to make them come back and buy. How do you do that? Recovering abandonment solutions, such as collecting their emails. When someone's buying from you, you're probably collecting their name and email first before you're showing the credit card information. You can do things like exit intent offers, using tools like Hello Bar, where you show them an exit offer saying, hey, thinking about leaving? Put in your name and email and I'll send you a 10% off coupon or a free shipping coupon. #6: Optimize your checkout process. Baymard did a study on checkout pages. They found when companies optimize their checkout pages, they made an extra 260 billion, that's not million, that's billion with a B, extra dollars. Don't forget to optimize your checkout process. The way you do that is by first removing unnecessary fields. Why would you ask someone for their name and email and address multiple times? That's unnecessary. Keep it simple. The other way you can optimize your checkout process is by making it two-step. #7: Leverage a referral program. If someone's buying from your e-commerce site, they probably know other people have the same problem and need your solution. Create a referral program, and you can do this through ReferralCandy. You can do simple things like, get 20 bucks when you refer someone that also signs up and buys. The key with a referral program is to incentivize both the person giving the referral and the person accepting the referral. Follow these seven tips, and you should generate at least 50 plus percent more in sales. Leave a comment below and say, hey, here's my e-commerce store. This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. Restaurant Marketing Ideas: Double Restaurant Profits VIDEO TRANSCRIPT (kind of, sort of) If you are a restaurant owner or bar owner, operator, or manager, just getting into the restaurant business or if you've been in the restaurant business forever, you're in the right place. Today we're going to talk about one of my restaurant marketing ideas, or dare I say one of my most important and valuable restaurant marketing idea, which will ultimately lead to doubling your profit. See I get phone calls and e-mails all the time from people that want to know how they can double their business. What they really mean by 'doubling their business' is they want to double their profits. The difference really is, when you say you want to double your business, you're talking about adding more marketing, adding more labor and adding more expenses, which will hopefully lead to more profits. I'm going to share with you a 3 step process that won't cost you any money in marketing, in advertising, in added labor and really, not much more extra time. What that's going to do is allow any new revenue to go right to the bottom line, with out any added expenses! And that's why this formula is so simple to not only execute, but to understand! Step 1 to doubling your restaurant or pretty much any food and beverage establishment's profits: 10% more customers. That means if you're serving an average of 100 customers a day, you simply need to bump that up to a 110 customers a day. I want to share with you my best tip for getting more customers in your restaurant without spending any money and that's called Online Review Engagement. A lot of us are engaging currently online with our customers but we're not doing it correctly, in the native way, that they want to be heard and listened to, depending on what platform you're working on. The way we talk to customers is very different on Twitter to Facebook to Yelp to Vine to Instagram or any of the social media platforms out there. If you are not certain that you are engaging with your customers 100% accurately, in the way they want to be engaged with online, then send me an e-mail and just tell me the name of your business and city that you are located in, so I can do a quick little search of your social media. Then we'll get on the phone for a half hour or so. I want to share with you some of the things you're doing right and maybe some areas for improvement. This is so important, this is game changing, this is real life changing stuff when you figure out how to properly engage with your customers online, especially with reviews. Although the tactics for each might be different, they should complement each other. Understanding how sales and revenue are related and how to balance your need to increase both helps you market efficiently and optimize your profits. There are 3 main strategies and tips I share on how to increase sales volume with marketing basics. 1. Develop more things to sell. This will increase your sales volume to existing clients, as well as develop new sales markets for additional clients. 2. Have more people selling your products and services. This can be done by adding sales personnel, or by adding partners in selling for you. This is called "partnership marketing" or co-branding. 3. Ask more people for money, more often. You can increase your sales volume by asking for more business, more often, from more people. In a perfect world, you would have an unlimited budget to market your business in order to find new customers and increase sales. You could buy lots of online and offline advertising, run promotions to build traffic in store and online, and launch a proactive public relations campaign to increase your product or brand's visibility and awareness. But this isn't a perfect world. Realistically, most small businesses and even many mid-sized firms have more great ideas on how to peddle their wares than available resources. So where do you start if you are looking for more customers? Learning to generate new sales leads is an essential skill for an entrepreneur. Even if you don't consider yourself a salesperson in the classic sense of the Willy Loman character from Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman, you need to understand that the possibilities for finding new customers range from cold calling names from the phone book to buying lists of potential customers to using newer Internet techniques like search engine optimization to drive new business to your website. We're heading to Bali but I have insomnia so I made you a 2 HOUR presentation on email marketing - this is the result of binge watching youtube videos and learning dozens of new strategies. I redid my email autoresponder last month and they suck... I'm going to redo them all again soon and made a massive list of small tweaks that is going to have a vast improvement on sales. Like always, I ramble and get distracted and go off on tangents, but there is a TON of great content in this, so take notes. Email marketing is an easy/free thing authors can quickly improve and almost everyone is doing it wrong (myself included... until now). The short version: -Focus on relationship building and value FIRST. -Make them want it without making it available (show, don't sell) -Make them an offer they can't refuse but make it exclusive and limited. The harder you are to work with, the more they'll want to join ("velvet rope" marketing - I may try this with fiction soon, Viral Loops has an awesome leaderboard feature, but it's not cheap). Also, did you know words like "free" or "discount" or "sale" could get your email sent to spam? So be careful with your promotions. A lot of this is advanced 'online business' and sales stuff, but especially if you write nonfiction it'll be useful. It's basically my entire business model, and explains some of the big changes I'll be making with my brands this year.
