"How did you handle a difficult situation?" in Job Interview

03:46
"Tell me about a difficult situation or challenge you faced in a workplace" By asking this question, employers are trying to see how you (A) take charge in handling a challenging situation, or (B) collaborate with your coworkers as a team to solve a conflict. They want to know if you have critical thinking and problem solving skill, how you approach the problem and the level of responsibility you take in challenging situations. It is very important to make sure that you use an example that demonstrates your ability to handle difficult situation. So do not mention about when you elevated the responsibility. Rather, talk about times when you stepped up and took a leadership position by collaborating with your coworkers. In order to construct effective story, use PAR model and follow the 3 steps. 1 Problem: Identify the problem. What was the issue? 2 Action: How did you and your coworkers analyzed the problem and took actions to solve the issue? 3 Result: What was the positive outcome in result of the action? By following PAR model, you can frame your story well. Watch the video to see example answer and start constructing your answer. Jobspeaker is a FREE service to help job seekers find better jobs. Closing a Pitch, Calculating Profit, & Managing Team Priorities #AskSwenk ep 38

07:41
Yasser asked: Just a quick question... how do you end a pitch? Myles asked: I was wondering what your thoughts are on trying to work out the profit we make on a deal? I feel it’s a bit of a guess at the moment, as I’m not sure exactly what we should factor in to the cost of sale? Same goes for the monthly retainers, I’m not sure how we try and work out what it’s costing our business in terms of supporting the client? Phil asked: Say you found a fantastic video course that offers in-depth training on one of your core services. You get excited about it, and purchase it for your team to watch. You can't wait for your team to watch it, so you can start a conversation about the course... But 7 days later, you find that no one on the team has "had time" to watch the course. Do you scream, cry, force them or just give up? Simon Sinek on Learning How Not to Manage People

04:15
Watch all Simon Sinek Capture Your Flag interviews: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0F0B345720658BFB In Chapter 12 of 23 in his 2013 Capture Your Flag interview, author and public speaker Simon Sinek answers "What Did You Learn in Your First Job After College That is Still Relevant Today?" Sinek shares how he learned not to manage people while working at his first job after college. He works for a boss who focuses on the negative and chooses to point out team member weaknesses and not strengths. Sinek finds the experience demotivating and over time learns that the opposite approach - treating people with respect, showing empathy, focusing on strengths, and pairing people with complementary skills - is a better way to manage teams. Simon Sinek teaches leaders and organizations how to inspire people. Sinek is the author of two books, "Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Come Together and Others Don't" and "Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action". He is a public speaker, an adjunct professor at Columbia University and a Brandeis University graduate. Excel spreadsheet for tracking tasks (shared workbook)

10:41
This video provides instructions on use of a spreadsheet, available for download at http://www.legaltree.ca/node/1932. The spreadsheet is designed to allow delegation of task, for example by lawyers to a legal assistant. It allows creation of tasks which are put on a task list and reordering of tasks according to priority. Assistants then move the tasks to a "completed tasks" section of the spreadsheet as the tasks are completed. The spreadsheet should be saved as a shared workbook so it can be simultaneously accessed by many users on a network e.g. lawyers adding tasks and assistants completing them. See http://www.legaltree.ca/node/1932 for more info. How to Speak Like a Leader

05:21
How to speak like a leader. Leadership communication skills often boil down to four key differences when compared to the average person. FREE 7 Instant Tips for Confident & Composed Public Speaking http://bit.ly/2M1NfVE-SpeakingTips How leaders communicate: 1. Leaders speak concisely. They figure out what the heart of their message and leaders talk clearly and concisely. Developing good leadership communication skills means getting right to the point. This is the key to most executive-level communication. Leadership communication skills often boil down to conciseness. 2. Leaders can speak outside of their own area of expertise about the value of other areas of the organization. In contrast, individual contributors often get entrenched in their own personal background of knowledge (e.g., IT, engineering, etc.). Leaders understand and can speak about the value of all of those different areas. This is most noticeable in groups. A key group leadership skill is speaking outside of your expertise background. Good leadership communication skills mean moving beyond self-advocacy and speaking about other areas more fluently. 3. Leaders speak a level above individual team concerns. How leaders communicate differently is also by focusing on the coordination and strategy between and among teams to help groups work toward common goals. 4. Leaders can speak about virtually every task to the overall goals of the business, the overarching priorities of the entire organization. Leaders communicate this way (a) because they think this way, and (b) because their communication matches their priorities. As a result, others hear them and say, "Oh, yeah. That's how we work toward this goal." Again, this often comes out in group settings. When it comes to group leadership skills, good leadership communication skills means reminders about the bigger picture their individual work supports. That's how leaders talk most of the time. Now you know "how to talk like a leader." Put it into practice right away. How to batch tasks in Asana

10:27
“Batching” is a common term used in the productivity space to describe how you can group tasks together and tackle them all at once to achieve efficiency benefits. For example, instead of responding to email as soon as it arrives and incurring a mental “switching cost” every time you stop what you’re doing to respond, you check email two or three times a day (dealing with multiple emails at once) in order to maximise efficiency. In this video, I’d like to show you behind the scenes at how I batch tasks using Asana. What is The Best Way to Define Task Priority?

03:15
https://www.elementool.com/Services/joinPage/joinPage.aspx?freetrial&referral=ImpPriYouTube It's Allison here again. In this clip I'm going to show you how you can improve the efficiency of your project development process so you can develop more in less time. One of the main reasons why projects are late is lack of proper priorities. It's very common to see developers working on low priority tasks instead of focusing on the high priority tasks first. I'll give you an example: Let's say we develop a shopping cart. The highest priority task would be to develop the credit card payment processing. A lower priority task would be to develop the page design layout. Why is credit card processing more important than page design layout? Because you can't process the transactions without the payment processing system, but you can process your transactions if the page layout is not done yet. Although, needless to say, it's much better to have both of the tasks completed. Another advantage of using priorities is having the ability to control the project schedule and deadline. If you're about to reach the project release date and several of the features are not ready yet, it's much easier to delay low priority tasks to the next version and release the project on time. But if you haven't completed the major high priority tasks close to the deadline, you can't delay them to the next release — and this means that your project couldn't be released on time. It's very common to use priority categorizing such as: Critical, High, Medium, and Low. But what if you have 10 high priority tasks? Which one should you finish first? To try to solve that, people add a second tier of priority. Often it is called Severity. For example: Critical, High, Medium, and Low. Using this system, you would first complete issues that are Critical Priority and Critical Severity. Then you'll complete issues that are Critical Priority and High Severity. Starting to get complicated, right? Furthermore, what if you have five tasks with Critical Priority and High Severity? Which should you complete first? I bet you're pretty confused by now. It's understandable, because these priority methods are confusing and too complicated. This is why we developed the Priority List system that makes your life a lot easier. The priority List enables you to define a unique priority value to each task in a simple manner of using numbers. This means that an issue with priority value 1 will be developed first. An issue with priority value 2 will be developed second, and so on. With Priority List there is no way to get confused. Each team member knows exactly what they should work on at any time by just looking at the Priority List and simply focusing on the issues based on their order. Priority List gives the manager full control over the development process. It's easy to define and change task priority by simple dragging and dropping them on the list. It is also possible to see the progress of each task right on the list itself, giving the team leader a full overview of the project progress. So toss away the old complicated priority system and start using the quick and simple Priority List right away.
