How to Create a Mac OS X USB Boot Drive on Windows

06:53
This tutorial will help you create a bootable USB flash drive for your Mac on a Windows computer. In order for this to work you should have a USB flash drive. The one I used in my tutorial was 16GB in size, but it will work with any flash drive that is 8GB in size or higher. Open command prompt as an administrator and enter the following commands to convert your USB drive from MBR to GPT fomat: diskpart list disk select disk X (where X is the number of your USB flash drive) clean convert GPT create partition primary Transmac can be downloaded from AcuteSystems.com at http://www.acutesystems.com/scrtm.htm The application costs a one off fee of £59, however you can use Transmac without any restrictions for fifteen days. That's more than enough time to do what you need to do. If you search online for "OS X DMG Download" you will find many websites that host the DMG file for your Mac's operating system. It should be around 6GB in size. The website I used was http://macdrug.com/. Downloading directly from their server was super slow so I downloaded the DMG file via the torrent file available instead. Once you have your USB boot drive, you can boot up from the drive by inserting the USB drive into your Mac and then pressing the option (⌥) key as soon as your computer loads. This will allow you to select which drive you boot from. If you see the no/prohibited/forbidden symbol after selecting your USB drive to boot (it's like a circle with a line through it i.e. ø), try and go back into the recovery area by pressing command and R when your Mac is loading and unmounting the drive. There is a good discussion about this issue at http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/when-booting-from-usb-i-get-circle-with-line-through-it.1411034/ Some people had better luck entering into safe mode using command and S - see the discussion at http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/circle-slash-prohibitory-sign-and-spinning-gear-no-boot.683873/ There is a lot of great information about the prohibited symbol at https://bombich.com/kb/ccc4/help-my-clone-wont-boot too. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this so please leave a comment below. As always, if you enjoyed the video, please click like, share, and subscribe :) Thanks guys. Read iSecrets. New magazine about gadgets and mobile technology. http://app.appsflyer.com/id946420218?pid=YouTube&c=Description Follow this tutorial to learn how to boot mac by using an external storage device that is "usb" with the help of the ".dmg" file. USB drives tend to be higher in capacity than disc media. Not only is it faster to copy data such as setup files from a USB drive, but during usage the access times are also significantly faster. In this tutorial we will show you how to boot a mac from usb. Step # 1-Extract the dot dmg file First of all, you will need to download the latest version of the operating system from the mac app store. Next, find and extract the ".dmg" file from the installation folder. Here we have already copied the ".dmg" file on to the desktop Step # 2 -- Open disk utility Now all you need to do is open up "Disk Utility". You can do so by moving up to "spotlight" and searching for "disk utility". Step # 3 -- Open the restore tab Once done, open up your USB drive and move your cursor over to the "restore" tab. Step # 4 -- Click on the restore button In order to boot mac from usb, select the ".dmg" file (that we've copied on the desktop) for the source folder and drag the usb hard drive for the destination folder. With that done, click on the "Restore" button. Now, all the contents of your hard drive will be erased and replaced with the mac installation file. It usually takes about twenty minutes for the processing to take place. Step # 5 --Open usb folder Once done, open up the USB folder and there you can see that it has been converted into a bootable drive and this is how you boot a mac from usb.
How to Factory Reset a Mac Computer

04:34
There’s a few things you need to do before selling your mac First backup any of the data you want to keep. If you are getting a new mac computer you can use Time Machine on a separate hard drive. If you aren’t getting a new mac then I suggest backing up your files by copying them to an external hard drive. Because if you try and go the Apple Time Machine route, you won’t be able to access them as easily. But putting them on a Hard Drive you’ll be able to plug it into any computer and retrieve your files. Once you’ve copied all your files over that you want to keep you’ll want to deauthorize your computer. To do this go to iTunes - Store - Deauthorize This Computer Then enter your Apple ID & Password and click Deauthorize After you’ve done that it’s time to erase the hard drive and reinstall the OS. Now it’s time to restart the computer. At this point you have 2 options. When you restart you’ll need to hold certain keys down on your computer. Holding down "Command - R” during startup Will allow you to restore your current OS Your mac creates a reinstaller on your hard drive to restore your current OS. If you choose that option then any future installation of your OS will require you to enter your Apple ID and password. This is not helpful at all if you are planning on selling your computer. The second option requires an internet connection Holding down “Command Option R” which brings you into Apple’s Internet Recovery Mode This option will reset your computer to the original Mac OS that the computer shipped with, without any connection to your Apple ID. If you are selling your computer then choose this option. Make sure your computer ethernet cable is plugged in or you have a Wifi connection if you have a MacBook Air Once you are in the recovery mode you can erase your hard drive and reinstall. Click on Disk Utility and then select your hard drive. Then select the erase tab and it should be on format Mac OS Extended Journaled You can leave the Name whatever the default is. Then click security options It’s important to point out that you can choose the level of hard drive erasing you want to do. From a simple yet unsecured basic erase which I don’t recommend all the way to a Hilary Clinton Lois Lerner Wipe down that will make your hard drive cleaner than a fat man’s eatin’ hand. It’s also worth pointing out that if you have a SSD or solid state drive or even a fusion hybrid hard drive, your data won’t be completely erased no matter which setting you choose. At least at the time that I made this video that is the case. So if you have one of those drives and you have sensitive information you don’t want potentially accessed by naredowells, then consider removing the hard drive entirely before selling. Personally I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but I just wanted to let you know your options. So with whatever option you’ve chosen then click erase. Depending on your choice this may take a while, it should give you a progress bar and estimated time frame. OK, now that we’ve erased the hard drive just go back and select Reinstall OSX. and start the process. Once it’s done installing the next time the computer is launched it will enter setup mode for the new owner.

How to Install Mac OSX from the Internet Recovery | Tutorial

04:00
MUST READ BELOW: 1) In the Apple menu, choose Restart or power on your Mac. 2) As the computer restarts, hold down the Command (⌘) – Option (⌥) – R combination immediately upon hearing the startup chime. Install Mac OS from the Internet - For crashed Mac OS X Recovery includes a built in set of utilities as part of the Recovery System. To start your computer from Recovery, restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R). Press and hold these keys until the Apple logo appears. Internet Recovery Macs released in mid-2011 or later, along with some older Macs once you install a firmware update, include a new feature called OS X Internet Recovery (Lion Internet Recovery under Lion). This feature works much like standard OS X Recovery but with one major difference: Internet Recovery works even if you don't have a Recovery HD partition, if that partition isn't working properly, or if your Mac’s drive is damaged or not connected. How does Internet Recovery work? Unlike standard recovery mode, which uses software on a partition of your Mac’s drive, Internet Recovery uses a combination of code stored in your Mac’s firmware and a net-boot image stored on Apple’s servers. Specifically, when you start Internet Recovery, your Mac contacts Apple’s Internet Recovery servers and requests the appropriate disk image to boot your Mac into recovery mode. Your Mac then downloads the necessary code over the Internet and boots. At that point, Internet Recovery works much like standard recovery mode, as described in the next section. One other difference between standard recovery mode and Internet Recovery is that when you boot into Internet Recovery, the system tests your Mac’s RAM and its hard drive to see if either has any obvious hardware problems. Also, because Internet Recovery requires an Internet connection just to boot, if your Mac is not connected to a working Ethernet network, you’re required to connect to a Wi-Fi network right from the start. However, while Internet Recovery is a useful feature, and it could even be a metaphorical life-saver should your hard drive die, it has one major drawback: It’s very, very slow compared to standard recovery mode, because it must first download the necessary software. In fact, if you boot into Internet Recovery, the first screen you see displays a slow-moving progress bar along with a warning that booting will take a while. How do you boot into Internet Recovery? If you’re really curious, you may be able to force your Mac to boot into Internet Recovery by holding down Command+Option+R at startup. However, in my testing, this didn’t work on every Internet Recovery-capable Mac. If that keyboard shortcut doesn’t work for you, the answer is generally, “You can’t unless you really need to.” As long as you have a valid Recovery HD partition, trying to boot into Internet Recovery will instead boot your Mac into standard recovery mode. Internet Recovery comes into play only if you have a compatible Mac with no working Recovery HD partition—in that case, your Mac automatically uses Internet Recovery. In fact, on one of my Macs, to even test Internet Recovery I had to use a number of tricks to make my Mac’s Recovery HD partition visible and then purposely erase and remove it. Only then, with a blank drive with no Recovery HD partition, was I able to boot into Internet Recovery by holding down Command+R at startup. (If you have a compatible Mac with an easily accessible hard drive, you could simply disconnect your hard drive, but that’s not an option for most current Macs.) Using OS X Recovery and Internet Recovery When booted into recovery mode, the tasks you can perform are limited. The four main options are listed in the OS X Utilities window; select one and click Continue to use it.

How to reset mac to its factory settings (ANY MAC)

03:35
The easiest and official way to factory reset your mac computer or your MacBook Pro to it's factory settings. By the way, if you read the description, I need to point some staff out. If you reset your mac, then automatically the newest version of Mac OS X will be installed to your computer. Next, make sure that you know your Apple ID because you will be asked for it and if you don't know it, then you may need to click on forgot password, so Apple will send you instructions to reset your password and change it. Everything else is explained on the video. How to Clean Install Mac OS X Mavericks and Mountain Lion!

08:30
READ THIS GUIDE: 1. If you don't have it yet, get Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store but do not install it yet (or redownload it if you did install it). 2. Create a bootable install drive for OS X Mountain Lion, make one manually with a USB drive or use the LionDiskMaker tool to automate the process with a USB or DVD 3. With the boot installer drive connected to the Mac, reboot and hold down the Option key. 4. Choose the "Mac OS X Installer" startup volume from the boot menu. 5. Select "Disk Utility" and choose the hard drive you wish to format, click the "Erase" tab, and then pull down the "Format" menu and select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as the type, name the drive if you wish. 6. Click the "Erase" button and let the drive format -- this is the point of no return When finished, quit out of Disk Utility and now select the "Install Mac OS X" option from the menu. 7. Choose your freshly formatted hard drive and install Mountain Lion When the Mac reboots you will have a clean installation of Mac OS X 10.8 to work with. At this point you can either import files and apps from the backup you made, manually copy over backed up files, or just start anew. ---------------------------------------------------------- Interact with me! How To Make A PC Keyboard Work On A Mac

02:47
I upgraded my Mac keyboard to the Logitech G710+ so that I can create macros for all my apps (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, etc.), plus I really wanted a mechanical keyboard. That’s great news. What was not so great was the Option and Command keys are reversed on a PC keyboard. In this episode, I show you how to remap those keys so that they are in the correct position for us Mac users! Review of the G710+ coming soon!
