How a Stock Exchange Works: "Work of the Stock Exchange" 1941 Coronet Instructional Films

15:36
Financial Classic Films playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE7527E1C9F0B138B more at http://money.quickfound.net "Examines each step of incorporation and listing of stock. Illustrates the details of buying and selling operations on the exchange floor and in the broker's office, showing how these operations bring to land, labor and management the necessary capital for production." Reupload of a previously uploaded film with improved video & sound. Originally a public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stock_exchange Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ A stock exchange is a form of exchange which provides services for stock brokers and traders to buy or sell stocks, bonds, and other securities. Stock exchanges also provide facilities for issue and redemption of securities and other financial instruments, and capital events including the payment of income and dividends. Securities traded on a stock exchange include stock issued by listed companies, unit trusts, derivatives, pooled investment products and bonds. Stock exchanges often function as "continuous auction" markets, with buyers and sellers consummating transactions at a central location, such as the floor of the exchange. To be able to trade a security on a certain stock exchange, it must be listed there. Usually, there is a central location at least for record keeping, but trade is increasingly less linked to such a physical place, as modern markets are electronic networks, which gives them advantages of increased speed and reduced cost of transactions. Trade on an exchange is by members only. The initial public offering of stocks and bonds to investors is by definition done in the primary market and subsequent trading is done in the secondary market. A stock exchange is often the most important component of a stock market. Supply and demand in stock markets are driven by various factors that, as in all free markets, affect the price of stocks (see stock valuation). There is usually no compulsion to issue stock via the stock exchange itself, nor must stock be subsequently traded on the exchange. Such trading is said to be off exchange or over-the-counter. This is the usual way that derivatives and bonds are traded. Increasingly, stock exchanges are part of a global market for securities. In recent years, various other trading venues, such as electronic communication networks, alternative trading systems and "dark pools" have taken much of the trading activity away from traditional stock exchanges... The Dutch East India Company, formed to build up the spice trade, operated as a colonial ruler... Control of the company was held tightly by its directors, with ordinary shareholders not having much influence on management or even access to the company's accounting statements. However, shareholders were rewarded well for their investment. The company paid an average dividend of over 16 percent per year from 1602 to 1650. Financial innovation in Amsterdam took many forms. In 1609, investors led by one Isaac Le Maire formed history's first bear syndicate, but their coordinated trading had only a modest impact in driving down share prices, which tended to be robust throughout the 17th century. By the 1620s, the company was expanding its securities issuance with the first use of corporate bonds. Joseph de la Vega, also known as Joseph Penso de la Vega and by other variations of his name, was an Amsterdam trader from a Spanish Jewish family and a prolific writer as well as a successful businessman in 17th-century Amsterdam. His 1688 book Confusion of Confusions... was the earliest book about stock trading... William sought to modernize England's finances to pay for its wars, and thus the kingdom's first government bonds were issued in 1693 and the Bank of England was set up the following year. Soon thereafter, English joint-stock companies began going public. London's first stockbrokers, however, were barred from the old commercial center known as the Royal Exchange, reportedly because of their rude manners. Instead, the new trade was conducted from coffee houses along Exchange Alley. By 1698, a broker named John Castaing, operating out of Jonathan's Coffee House, was posting regular lists of stock and commodity prices. Those lists mark the beginning of the London Stock Exchange... and by the 1790s shares were being traded in the young United States...

3 Stocks to Buy September 2018 - UK

07:28
These are my top 3 stocks to buy for September 2018 in the UK. My 3 UK stocks to buy for September 2018 are RPC Group, Bellway Homes and Pets at Home. I’ll go into detail about why I think these are the best 3 UK stocks to invest in for September 2018. All these stocks are listed on the London Stock Exchange. I’ll also review my top 3 UK stocks to buy for August 2018 to see how they’re doing. Don’t forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! 😝 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Number 3. My third favourite UK stock to buy in September 2018, is RPC Group. It’s got the ticker code RPC and sits in the Industrial Goods & Services. RPC is one of Europe's largest supplier of plastic packaging. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Number 2. My second favourite UK stock to buy for September 2018 featured in my video last month, and I still think it’s a great investment, it’s Bellway Homes, ticker symbol BWY. Bellway is a UK based housebuilder and sits in the Personal & Household Goods sector. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Number 1. My number one stock to buy for September 2018 is in the retail sector, which is one which I usually avoid due to its unpredictability. Its Pets at Home, ticker symbol PETS. Pets at home is the UK’s largest pet supplies retailer. I think the pet market is much safer than general retail, and the UK always has been, and will continue to be a pet fanatical country. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 📈Watch my video on 3 UK Stocks for August 2018 here: https://youtu.be/5mpcNI0KpHc ---------------------------------------------------------------- ⬇️Get Notified About The Better Stocks Index Launch: https://mailchi.mp/f8641e453845/findbetterstocks OR 📈Learn more about The Better Stocks Index https://youtu.be/CgVKGhnd9bo OR 💻Learn more about The Better Stocks Dashboard https://youtu.be/eQsgw2RLEzE

Lesson 4: What is the stock market and how does it work?

03:15
Every day millions of shares, or equities, are traded on the world’s stock markets, from New York to London to Shanghai. In 2015 alone, an amazing twenty-three billion shares were traded globally, with a value of one hundred and fourteen trillion dollars. Professional fund managers, as opposed to individual investors, make 85% of these trades. When a company first issues shares to the public, the resulting funds are used by the business to finance growth and development. These shares are then traded on the stock market – a secondary market – enabling the original purchaser to sell them on, and others to buy them. Businesses whose shares are available for sale on an official stock exchange are called listed companies. The FTSE 100 Index is a measure of the shares of the largest one hundred companies of over two thousand that are listed on the London Stock Exchange. Similar indices exist in other countries, for example the S&P 500 which comprises shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange. But how does the market decide what the shares are worth? One way of looking at markets is to think of them as a very powerful computer, processing all known information about companies and incorporating it into the price of shares. No one person can know if a share price is correct or whether it is undervalued or overvalued. But because the price reflects all the known information about the company, it is what millions of traders at any one time believe is the fair price. Just like everything else, share prices are affected by the dynamics of supply and demand. We all know that some things cost more when there is a greater demand for them, and less when fewer people want them. We accept that the price we pay for goods and services is fair, and then make a choice whether we buy them or not. It is the same with stocks and shares. Of course, there are some people who think they know better and can spot ‘mis-priced’ shares, or predict when prices will go up and down. They’re like people who constantly change lanes in heavy motorway traffic – they rarely arrive any sooner than the rest of us who stay in lane. All investment managers – the people who decide what shares to buy and sell – have access to the same information. So markets work, because they already incorporate everything everyone knows about all the companies in the market. This is known as the Efficient Market Hypothesis. Active investors – those who believe they know something the rest of the market doesn’t – are the ones that actually drive the market by frequent trading. But they often miss out on the steady gains that are made by adopting a ‘buy and hold’ strategy.

Tips for Trading the FTSE 100 Index 👍

07:38
● Trading the UK FTSE 100. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/indices/spread-betting-ftse.html ● Trade FTSE at http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/spreadbetting/Ayondo-compare.html Ayondo ✔ Please like the video and comment if you enjoyed - it helps a lot! But what is the FTSE 100? The FTSE 100 market consists of an index that is constituted of the 100 largest listed companies in the United Kingdom by market capitalization. All these companies are listed on the London Stock Exchange. However you should note that the FTSE is a Market-Cap weighted average – so the share price of large companies such as BP and Vodafone will have a bigger impact than those of smaller ones such as Cadbury or ICI. A common misconception that the FTSE 100 is a pure representative of the UK economy. This simply isn’t true; research from Citibank shows that around 75% of the revenues of FTSE 100 companies came from outside the UK. Even more surprisingly, most of the top 10 FTSE 100 companies report their results in US Dollars rather than Sterling. The largest company in the FTSE 100 that could properly be described as a British is Tesco, and even the supermarket behemoth is increasingly exposed to international markets.

China's Sovereign Yuan Bond Listed in London

01:38
A 3 billion yuan (457 million U.S. dollars) government bond issued by the Chinese Ministry of Finance was listed to be traded on the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday. The yuan-denominated sovereign bond, issued in London late last month, is the first of its kind outside China. It will mature in three years and has a 3.28 percent coupon rate. Chinese Vice Finance Minister Shi Yaobin sees the first international bond listing as an important step which shows that global investors have confidence in China's economy. "The successful issuance of this bond has improved the credit and market status of renminbi products, adapted to the market demand for high-safety financial products outside the Asian market, and will certainly boost the prosperity and development of the offshore yuan market," said Shi. Last year, China's central bank debuted on the London markets with a British government sale of so-called dim sum bonds that were six times oversubscribed. The latest issue, this time directly from the Chinese government and seen as a measure of long term market faith in the Chinese economy, was three times oversubscribed. The listing also signals success for the British government in its efforts to build London into a Western hub for the Chinese currency. "We want to maintain our status as the world's leading financial center. Clearly we are the meeting point between East and West, and the growth, internationalization of the RMB is going to be one of the great stories of 21st century finance. We want to be at the forefront of that. We think it benefits the prosperity of both countries," said Harriett Baldwin, Economic Secretary to the UK Treasury. Midway between Shanghai and Wall Street, London is already the world's second largest clearing house for the Chinese currency. China and Britain have seen closer financial cooperation, especially in promoting the global use of the yuan, in recent years. The UK was the first Western country to issue yuan-denominated sovereign bonds and the first major developed country to include the yuan into its foreign exchange reserves. China's central bank issued 5 billion yuan of RMB-denominated notes in London last year, the first offshore issuance of such debts outside China.
