20 Medical Lies That You Still Believe

14:14
Many of the long-lived medical beliefs are actually wrong. There are 20 health tips that are worth following and which are better left in the past. Do you still believe that humans have five senses and using a microwave can give you cancer? In that case, you will be surprised to see those and other health myths exploded. After watching this video, you will have a great excuse to eat at night. Myths: Pregnancy lasts 9 months 0:36 If you are overweight, you are unhealthy 0:58 Organic food is free of pesticides 1:41 Honey is a natural sugar, and it's better than processed sugar 2:29 You can catch a cold because of cold weather 3:12 Chicken broth is the best cure for everything 3:40 Eating carrots can give you excellent night vision 4:08 You use only 10% of your brain 4:53 Using microwaves can give you cancer 5:34 Yogurt can improve digestion 6:10 Eating at night will make you fat 6:53 Milk is good for you 7:39 Humans have five senses 8:20 Chocolate can give you acne 8:59 Blind people can’t see anything 9:28 You should always stretch before you begin exercising 9:56 Too much salt is unhealthy 10:34 Your tongue is divided into four parts 11:15 If you crack your knuckles, you will get arthritis 12:05 Only a direct blow to the head can cause a concussion 12:39 SUMMARY - Each pregnancy is different. It turns out that only 5% of babies arrive on their supposed due date. - The death rate of an overweight person who exercises regularly is half of the death rate of a person who falls into the standard weight category. - There is a list of more than 20 chemicals that have been approved to be put in organic food production by US Organic Standards. It must also be kept in mind that despite regulations, even organic food is susceptible to chemical flow from fields or nearby factories. - There are 64 calories in one tablespoon of honey and 49 calories per tablespoon of sugar. - More people catch a cold in the winter as we spend more time indoors which is good for viruses because they can spread easier. - In fact, chicken broth makes you feel warm on the inside working as a placebo. It doesn’t actually cure anything. - The presence of vitamin A in carrots can help improve your eyesight, but it’s merely a myth that it can help you obtain night vision. - Several scientists and experiments have proven that almost the entire brain is active during a person’s lifespan. The brain’s different parts are all responsible for our body’s performance, and 10% of the brain could not handle the functioning of your entire body. - Microwaves do not cause cancer, and this has been confirmed by some of the top researchers. If we look at the heating method of microwaves, we’ll see that they produce radiation that heats up the water molecules present in the food, thus making it warm. - The probiotics have slowly entered our systems, and they’re ruling it. These probiotics are said to be the “good kind of bacteria” which helps regulate our gut. However, when your body is already full of different kinds of bacteria, how can it be determined that it’s the bacteria coming from yogurt that is helping? - What and how much you eat and how much you exercise throughout the day and not the time of day when you eat that matters when it comes to weight gain and loss. - There is no association of milk intake with healthy bones and the prevention of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency. - Anyone who has seen The Sixth Sense is convinced that humans have only five senses. It turns out that we possess more than 20 extra senses. - Chocolate fans will love this. No, chocolate doesn’t cause acne. Too much oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells do. - Most of the blind people sometimes actually miss being able to see darkness. It’s incorrect to believe that blind people cannot see anything at all. - Stretching before a workout may make you less efficient. As per Italian researchers, overstretching before running or cycling may reduce your efficiency by as much as 5%. - There are some health conditions requiring you to increase your salt intake. Low salt levels can lead to the probability of diabetes, increased fat storage. - There are five tastes instead of 4. The fifth taste is umami, which is like the taste of glutamate. 7 Facts About Coffee You Probably Didn’t Know

06:48
How to drink coffee the right way and healthy? Why is coffee good for you? Here are 7 surprising reasons why you need to get yourself a cup of coffee right now. TIMESTAMPS Coffee boosts brainpower 0:40 Coffee increases blood pressure 1:46 Coffee makes your immune system stronger 2:24 Coffee relieves a headache 3:16 Coffee reduces stress 3:51 Coffee improves your memory 4:40 Coffee helps you lose weight 5:30 An amazing coffee cocktail recipe 6:06 SUMMARY - Coffee with sugar can turn you into a little genius for a while because the combination of caffeine and glucose activates certain sectors of your brain. The caffeine in coffee acts as a mild stimulant to the central nervous system. This neuronal activity triggers the release of the adrenaline, that will affect your body in several ways: your heartbeat increases, blood pressure rises, breathing tubes open up, sugar is released into the bloodstream for extra energy. - You might want to keep off the coffee if you are going to have a blood pressure test within the next 2 days. If you have high blood pressure, ask your doctor whether you should limit or stop drinking caffeinated beverages. - Coffee is known for its energy-boosting caffeine effect -- is an abundant source of nutrients and healthful chemicals that can aid your immune system. According to scientists from several countries, coffee reduces the risk of premature death. This is because coffee alters your immune system, making it stronger and healthier. - The caffeine can cure headaches and migraines. People are aware that caffeine is found in coffee, tea, soft drinks and chocolate, but may not know that caffeine is also contained in a variety of over the counter medications. That’s why it’s an ingredient in a lot of traditional pain relievers. - Coffee acts well as an anti-stress substance due to the release of dopamine and serotonin, which "trigger" a good mood. One cup, or even just the smell of coffee, can calm your nerves. This could explain a lower risk of depression among coffee drinkers. - Coffee can positively affect mood, enhance alertness, and memory abilities. The stimulators and neuro-mediators obtained from coffee not only boost your mood and productivity but also improve your memory. Of course, this only works with your short-term memory. - Coffee can keep off and help you lose excess weight. It can temporarily suppress your appetite and may stimulate minimal calorie burning. When the level of the hormone leptin is low, your body starts storing fat, and you gain weight. Coffee, however, increases the hormone levels in your body. BONUS If you're looking for something sweet to pair your milk, this cocktail recipe is a must. It is deliciously smooth and refreshing and, if bottled, ready to take on the go. • Make your favorite coffee. • Let it cool off, then fill an ice cube tray with the coffee. • Place it in the freezer. On a hot day, add the coffee cubes to a glass of milk. Sip a delicious mix and feel wonderful! Share the video with your friends to keep them caffeinated and hit the like button below the video! 12 Scary Things Your Eyes Say About Your Health

07:22
Have you ever experienced unpleasant sensations in your eyes? Swelling? Itching? Redness? For most of us, a good rest and sound sleep are enough to restore vision, but there are some important signs that you should never ignore. We at Bright Side decided to share these observations with you. Did you know, for example, that a white circle around the iris can mean an increased risk of a heart attack or stroke? Or that a dark dot on a background of flickering wavy lines often indicates poor cerebral circulation? Here are some symptoms which are a reason to consult a doctor immediately! TIMESTAMPS: White spots on the cornea of the eye 0:52 Blurred vision 1:26 Red eyes 1:56 Dry eyes 2:27 Colorless spots in front of the eyes 3:00 Swollen red eyes 3:27 A yellowish spot near the iris 3:50 Involuntary tears 4:37 A dark dot on a background of flickering wavy lines 5:12 Disappearing image in the visual field 5:45 A white circle around the iris of the eye 6:18 Yellow eye whites 6:45 #healthyeyes #redeyes #blurredvision SUMMARY: - White spots on the cornea of the eye is a fairly common phenomenon among people who wear contact lenses. Even small eye injuries caused by wearing contact lenses can lead an infection and then to a corneal ulcer. - Myopia isn’t the only reason for blurred vision: it can be a sign of diabetes. - If the eyes redden without a particular reason, it may signify such diseases as increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma), high intracranial pressure, and diabetes. - In a case excessive dryness is accompanied by increased sensitivity to light, this may indicate Sjogren’s syndrome, a rare immune system disorder. - Swollen red eyes is a consequence of fatigue and lack of sleep, and it is often mistaken for a sign of infection. Such a symptom can also appear in lovers of eye drops with a whitening effect. - Some people notice a yellowish area or a bump on the eye white, called pinguecula. This is a sign of aging of the conjunctiva, and it’s found mainly in seniors. - It sounds a bit paradoxical, but spontaneous tears can be a sign of a dry eye. Thus the eye tries to make up for the lack of moisture. - If from time to time you notice an image disappearing from certain areas of your visual field, this is a sign of an eye migraine. It can be accompanied by headaches due to cerebral circulatory disorders. - If your eye whites are yellow, the cause lies in the decrease in the functionality of the liver and bile ducts. Yellowness may become the main symptom of hepatitis. Your Ears Can Indicate Your Health: Don't Ignore These 8 Factors

10:10
It is a normal hygienic procedure to clean our ears once every few days. However, not all of us know that ear wax can also indicate the state of our health. With the help of a Q-tip, you can check the color of your ear wax and understand what it means. TIMESTAMPS What do we know about the human ear? 0:35 Ear wax of a gray color 1:28 Ear wax with traces of blood 2:09 Ear wax of a brown color 3:02 Ear wax of a black color 3:40 Ear wax of a white color 4:25 Ear wax with an unpleasant smell 5:14 Liquid ear wax 6:03 Dry earwax 6:36 See a doctor if you have the following symptoms 7:06 What you shouldn't do to avoid any problems 8:14 Three most interesting facts about your ears 8:47 SUMMARY Ear wax is not a body waste to get rid of regularly, quite the contrary - it's a kind of protection. It keeps the ear canal lubricated, therefore, prevents the ears from itching. Moreover, it prevents different pollutants from entering the inner ear. Even more surprisingly, this substance has antibacterial properties. Our body is a clever mechanism. Did you know that when we chew, the movement pushes ear wax to the outer part of the ear? This way, your ears self-clean! If your ears tend to produce a big amount of ear wax creating a build-up, you can take some preventive measures yourself. - It's effective to use agents softening the wax. They can be mineral or baby oil, or ear drops. It is enough to put a few drops of these substances into your ear once a week to soften the ear wax and help it to come out faster and with ease. - Another way to take care of your ears is to buy a special at-home kit for their irrigation. The Importance of Sleep: 8 Scientific Health Benefits of Sleep + Sleeping Tips

04:59
To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Today we’re going to talk about the importance of sleep and the 10 scientific health benefits of sleep. We’re also going to finish with some proven sleeping tips that will ensure you get a full night’s rest and make sure you get the right amount. 8 health benefits of sleep: 1. Not getting enough sleep is linked to fat 2. Getting the right amount of sleep improves your hormones 3. Good sleep Improves your immune system Another health benefit of sleep is helping you fight off being sick. In a recent study, people who sleep less than 7 hours a night are 3x more likely to develop a cold than those sleeping 8 hours or more. 4. Sleep Helps to Improve Learning In a Swiss University study two groups were introduced to a new language, one right before bed and one during the daytime. The one’s who slept immediately after leaning new material learned the language quicker than those learning in the day time. So studying before bed seems to be a good idea. 5. Sleep lowers the risk of developing depression In a study of twins researchers found that short sleep increased the genetic risk of developing depression. In fact, it has been estimated that 90% of patients with depression also suffer from some from of sleep apnea. 6. People who get more sleep naturally eat less When you don’t get enough sleep, the fluctuations of hormones cause greater cravings and worse appetite control. So if you’re someone who’s trying to lose weight but just can’t stay away from the late night snacks, getting more sleep is something that can probably help. 7. Sleep helps us empathize with others Another strange health benefit of sleep is a better understanding of social cues. One study found that those who are sleep deprived lose the ability to properly recognize expressions of anger and happiness in the faces of others. 8. Sleep improves athletic performance In a study of basketball players, a better night’s rest improved the players reaction times, speed, and, accuracy. In another study of over 2800 women, lack of sleep made them more sluggish and made it difficult to perform tasks that required coordination. Now that we’ve discussed the health benefits of sleep, lets talk about how to get a better nights rest. Here are 5 Sleeping Tips everyone needs to know Sleeping tip #1. Use Black out curtains and duct tape to black out your room Melatonin, also know as the sleep hormone, is raised when the sun goes down to indicate to our bodies that it’s time to rest. The problem is street lights, outlets, and all sorts of other unnatural lights confuse this hormone and trick it into thinking it’s still daytime. Do a complete blackout of your room and you will notice a BIG difference in both quality of sleep and ability to get to sleep. Also, computer screens and phone screens confuse melatonin as well. There are nighttime modes on these devices, but it’s always best to just not use them 1 hour before bedtime. Sleeping tip #2. Have A Routine Humans are habitual creatures and creating a systematic routine will improve sleep. Something as simple as brushing your teeth, reading a book for 15 minutes and immediately going to bed is a habit you can build to make your sleep almost automatic at night. Sleeping tip #3. Use Your Bed for Nothing but Sleep and the occasional… physical activity. Goes with the habit thing, but the moment you hit the bed you want the body to recognize that it’s time to fall asleep. So try not to work on your bed or spend anytime on it when you’re not resting. Sleeping tip #4. Use a pillow between or underneath your legs. This will help to maintain the alignment of your back and improve your posture over time. It will also help those of you suffering with lower back pain. There is not perfect way to sleep, but on your back is probably best as it helps to maintain the alignment of your neck and spine. Sleeping tip #5. Napping is great. A short 20-30 minute nap lowers cortisol levels and is very healthy for the body. So bring back a little bit of your childhood and do a quick cat nap if feeling tired mid day! Our last point is that the right amount of time for optimal sleep benefits is 7-9 hours per night. No less than 7 and no more than 9 is the perfect amount. 7 Things Your Pee Can Say About Your Health

08:49
7 things your urine is trying to tell you about your health. Have you ever seen green or blue urine? By checking the color, you can see whether your body is doing well or crying for help. As weird as it may sound, every time you go to the bathroom, you have a chance to check up on your health. No, we’re not talking about stepping on the scale or checking your face for breakouts. We’re talking about going number one! By examining the color of your urine, you can see whether your body is doing alright or if you need to go to the doctors. TIMESTAMPS Orange color 0:58 Pink and reddish color 2:13 Green or blue color 3:52 Brown color 5:05 Foaming or fizzy color 6:17 Transparent 7:03 Pale straw yellow, transparent yellow, or dark yellow color 7:34 SUMMARY - If you notice that the color of your urine has suddenly changed to orange, don’t worry just yet. As it turns out, some anti-inflammatory drugs, chemotherapy treatments, and laxatives with senna can cause such a color change. - Seeing pink or reddish urine usually sends most people into a panic, but it’s not really something to immediately freak out over. It could very well be caused by some foods or medications. If you’ve recently eaten beets, blackberries, or rhubarb, then you probably have nothing to worry about. Another reason could be that certain antibiotics that are used to treat tuberculosis can turn urine kind of reddish. - Eating some foods, like those that are artificially-dyed or asparagus, can discolor the urine to such an extent that it’s blue or green. If it’s because of this, there’s nothing to worry about, it’ll clear up in a day or two. Plus, medications like Amitriptyline, Indomethacin, and Propofol can cause these types of colors too. However, if none of these reasons seem likely to you, you should be dialing the doctor’s number right now. - If you notice brown shades in your urine, it could be a sign of severe dehydration. So put down those caffeinated drinks, and get more water into your body! Also, try to recall if you’ve eaten any rhubarb or fava beans lately. If you excluded these foods, and you know that you’re drinking lots water, but the color doesn’t go away, you guessed it: contact your doctor. Brown urine indicates problems with your liver and kidneys. - Having foamy urine from time to time is normal. It’s usually caused by the speed of urination. If it’s foamy after you’ve just shot that stuff out of you like a jet sprayer, don’t sweat it! But if it keeps coming back, and you notice it more and more often over time, who are you gonna call? The doctor! - If your urine is transparent, it’s a sign that you’re drinking too much water. Yes, too much is just as bad as too little! Drinking too much water can lead to certain risks, the most important of which is diluting the salts in your body. This can create a problematic chemical imbalance. - Ideally, your urine should be a pale gold color. If you are lucky enough to have the perfectly-colored pee, it means that you’re not under- or over-hydrated. You drink just as much water as you need. Good for you! If your urine is more concentrated and doesn’t look pale gold, it means that you need a little more water. Do you pay attention to the color of your urine, or do you feel weird checking it? What Will Happen If You Start Eating Oats Every Day

10:07
Doctors and nutritionists highly recommend making oatmeal a part of your diet and having it as your healthy morning meal. The secret is simple: good-quality environmentally-friendly oats help you feel and look better on the inside and out. Oats have some unique properties thanks to the wide variety of vitamins and minerals they contain. Zinc helps cleanse the skin and remove toxins and other harmful compounds. Iron is one of the most important elements for the nutrition and saturation of moisture in skin cells. Magnesium promotes blood circulation and noticeable skin cell renewal. While protein is extremely important, your body also demands carbohydrates and fats, both of which you can find in oatmeal. Oats are also rich in antioxidants that help alleviate itching, inflammation, and high blood pressure. The slow carbohydrates found in oatmeal help curb your appetite and maintain normal blood sugar levels. All those nutrients in oats not only boost your metabolism but also prevent the accumulation of fat and toxins in the body. Thanks to the antioxidants present in oatmeal, the probability of damage to the walls of blood vessels by free radicals is reduced significantly. If you find it boring to just have oatmeal for breakfast every day, you’ll love the recipes we have put together to help you turn a boring oatmeal breakfast into something way more flavorful. Music: Mint Chocolate 2a - Vibe Mountain https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Your skin will look better. 0:51 Your muscles will get much-needed protein. 1:48 You’ll get a boost of antioxidants. 2:31 You'll be full of energy. 3:19 You'll lose weight. 4:19 Your cholesterol will decrease. 5:00 You'll have a lower risk of developing heart disease. 5:40 You'll get rid of digestive problems. 6:00 Oatmeal recipes: Apple pie oatmeal 6:50 Oatmeal raisin cookies 7:43 Almond butter-banana oatmeal 8:55 SUMMARY -Oatmeal is ideal for treating inflammatory conditions, like eczema, dermatitis, and skin rashes. It also promotes healthy skin overall. -One serving, or about half a cup, of oatmeal gives your body 15% of the recommended daily amount of protein. Don’t forget about vitamin E, antioxidants, and glutamine, which help muscle fibers regenerate faster. -Oats are rich in antioxidants that help alleviate itching, inflammation, and high blood pressure. -Oatmeal is full of carbohydrates that give your body the energy it needs. -Beta-glucan in oats keeps you from overeating by helping you feel fuller for a longer amount of time and promoting the release of a satiety hormone. -The linoleic acid and soluble fiber contained in oatmeal helps lower the level of bad cholesterol in the blood. -Oats are rich in good healthy fats and support the cells in the heart and circulatory system. -Experts recommend getting at least 25-38 grams of dietary fiber every day since it’s ideal for good digestion. -Try apple pie oatmeal to boost your metabolism. You’ll need oatmeal, almond milk, cinnamon, maple syrup, a large apple and apple sauce to cook it. -The ingredients you’ll need for oatmeal raisin cookies are flour, sea salt, baking soda, butter, an egg, brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, apple sauce and fast-cooking oats. -To cook almond butter-banana oatmeal, you’ll need oatmeal, milk, almond butter, honey and a banana. 30 Facts You Never Knew about the Human Body

07:53
30 incredible facts about the human body that will deeply impress you. We bet you’ve never heard about half of them! We tend to think that we know our bodies perfectly. We are aware of how they work and what kinds of processes occur in them every second. In fact, the human body is one complex and mysterious mechanism that sometimes confuses even the most qualified specialists — doctors and scientists. SUMMARY 1. A tongue print is absolutely unique. 2. A single hair can hold the weight of a hanging apple. 3. The number of bacteria in a person’s mouth is equal to the number of people living on Earth, or even more. 4. Nails that are soft and brittle, with no moon, could indicate an overactive thyroid. 5. The speed of an incoming brain impulse is about 400 km/h. 6. There are not just four different blood types as we used to think but in fact 29! 7. Over the course of just one day, our blood ’runs’ the distance of 11,9999 miles (or 19,312 kilometers). 8. Men also have glands that can produce milk, but its production represents an abnormality for the male body. 9. A human makes approximately 20,000 breaths per day. 10. Almost all people in the world have special mites on their eyelashes called Demodex. 11. A human eye can distinguish up to 10 million different colors. But our brain can’t remember all of them. 12. Our ears keep on growing throughout our lives with almost unbelievable speed — a quarter of a millimeter per year! 13. The heart beats 35 million times a year. 14. Every day, the human body loses about one million skin cells — that amounts to 4,5 lbs. (or 2 kilos) every year. 15. 1 square centimeter of your skin contains around a hundred pain sensors. 16. This might be very surprising to some, but 26% of men also experience PMS. 17. The average person consumes about 77,000 lbs. (or 35 tons) of food during his or her life. 18. A human spends about five years of their life blinking. Fortunately, we can do many other things simultaneously! 19. 100,000 chemical reactions occur every second in our brains. 20. Women cry average 30 to 64 times a year, and men cry just 6 to 17 times. 21. Smiling triggers 17 muscles of the face while crying activates 43. So smile more! 22. A man’s face preserves its youthful appearance a lot longer than a woman’s face does. 23. The total length of all the nerves in the human body is 46 miles (or 75 km). 24. Boys have fewer taste buds on the surface of their tongues than girls do. 25. All human beings in the world began their existence as females. X and Y chromosomes are responsible for determining an individual’s sex. 26. Men can discern far fewer shades of color than women can, and the reason for this is quite simple. Color perception is determined by retinal cone cells. 27. Women blink twice as much as men. Also, women’s hearts beat faster than men’s. 28. The speed of your sneeze is 100 miles per hour (or 140 km per hour). 29. A feeling of thirst occurs when water loss is equal to 1% of your body weight. The loss of more than 5% can cause fainting, and more than 10% cause death from dehydration. 30. The muscles which help your eyes to focus complete around 100,000 movements a day. #humanbody # Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

Processed Food Documentary - Processed Food vs. Nutritional Needs

33:36
Processed Food Documentary: Processed Food vs. Nutritional Needs. The human body runs on food. Once, food shortage was the major concern. After the second world war, technological advances in food production led to a new era, that was characterized by an overabundance of inexpensive food, and relatively little physical activity. In the decades that followed, other sociocultural shifts continued to contribute to the changing way we ate. Women who had previously controlled most of the average family's food preparation now entered the workforce in significant numbers. And the processed food industry began to capitalize on our need for fast, convenient food. This meant that fewer meals were being cooked at home. And since convenience foods were generally higher in calories than home-cooked meals, the average person's caloric intake increased dramatically. Maya Adam, MD, is waging a battle cry against one of America’s most critical – and challenging – public health crises of our generation: childhood obesity. A lecturer at Stanford School of Medicine and in Stanford University’s human biology program, she is leading the cause through education. As always, use this info to gather more info. The shocking truth about your health | Lissa Rankin | TEDxFiDiWomen

18:03
Lissa Rankin, MD is an OB/GYN physician, author, keynote speaker, consultant to health care visionaries, professional artist, and founder of the women's health and wellness community OwningPink.com. Discouraged by the broken, patriarchal health care system, she left her medical practice in 2007 only to realize that you can quit your job, but you can't quit your calling. This epiphany launched her on a journey of discovery that led her to become a leader in the field of mind/body medicine, which she blogs about at OwningPink.com and is writing about in her third book Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself (Hay House, 2013). She teaches both patients and health care professionals how to make the body ripe for miracles by healing the mind and being healthy in all aspects of life, not just by promoting healthy behaviors like good nutrition, exercise, and adequate sleep, but by encouraging health and authenticity in relationships, work, creative expression, spirituality, sexuality, finances, and living environment. She is leading a revolution to feminize how health care is received and delivered by encouraging collaboration, fostering self-healing, reconnecting health care and spirituality, empowering patients to tap into the mind's power to heal the body, and encouraging women not to settle for being merely well, but to strive for living vital, joyful, authentic lives full of "mojo." When not spreading the word, she chills out, paints, does yoga, and hikes in Marin County, CA with her husband and daughter. Event video by: http://repertoireproductions.com/

Why Are American Health Care Costs So High?

07:53
In which John discusses the complicated reasons why the United States spends so much more on health care than any other country in the world, and along the way reveals some surprising information, including that Americans spend more of their tax dollars on public health care than people in Canada, the UK, or Australia. Who's at fault? Insurance companies? Drug companies? Malpractice lawyers? Hospitals? Or is it more complicated than a simple blame game? (Hint: It's that one.) For a much more thorough examination of health care expenses in America, I recommend this series at The Incidental Economist: http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/what-makes-the-us-health-care-system-so-expensive-introduction/ The Commonwealth Fund's Study of Health Care Prices in the US: http://www.commonwealthfund.org/~/media/Files/Publications/Issue%20Brief/2012/May/1595_Squires_explaining_high_hlt_care_spending_intl_brief.pdf Some of the stats in this video also come from this New York Times story: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/02/health/colonoscopies-explain-why-us-leads-the-world-in-health-expenditures.html?pagewanted=all This is the first part in what will be a periodic series on health care costs and reforms leading up to the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, in 2014.

Why are people so Healthy in Japan?

Having lived in America and now living in Japan, it's interesting to see how very different these two food environments are. I've seen comments on another one of my videos about low carb saying something like "Oh sure, you can lose weight on low carb, which is why all the rice eating Japanese people are so thin, right?" So with this video (and maybe the last one), I'm hoping to show that the diet over here is more complex than just "high carb" 0:00 - Intro: America & Japan 0:42 - People walk more in Japan 1:35 - Portion sizes are smaller 2:30 - America and Soda 2:40 - Rice vs. Wheat 3:50 - Fermented foods keeping the gut healthy 5:14 - Meat consumption is balanced with Fish consumption 5:54 - Muscle meat and organ meat balance 7:57 - Green Tea 8:43 - School Lunches in Japan A pdf of the transcript with links to my sources can be found here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/17282506 - - - Big thanks to Greg from "Life Where I'm From" for letting me use some shots from his video "Tokyo by Train" ! - https://goo.gl/8EvfNU (They're the professional shots near the start of people walking in Kamakura / around the train station) -Make sure and check out his channel - it's very interesting, especially if you're interested in Japan: https://goo.gl/s1Xfvt - - - Featured Music: Broke for Free - Playground Pigeon Broke for Free - IF For Business inquiries: [email protected]

Why I'm no longer vegan... (Bonny Rebecca Response)

22:19
In this video we discuss Bonny Rebecca and her boyfriend Tim no longer being vegan due to health problems. I think I bring up some interesting ideas surrounding the issues that people should hear or think about! I want to thank Bonny for her honesty, for her compassion, and for her dedication to the vegan lifestyle even though it was exacerbating her pre-existing issues. I want to commend her for coming forward with the truth AND for putting her health first. It's sad that the vegan community can be such a scary place that saying, "We tried for years to fix our issues but the only solution has been eggs and fish," can lead to hate videos, nasty comments, and so much anger. The world is a nasty enough place without all that. Let's support Bonny and love each other!!! Most importantly, let's try to eat as few animals as possible and make the world a better place.
