Articles - a, an & the - English Grammar lesson

11:07
Articles - a, an & the - English Grammar lesson Take the quiz - http://www.learnex.in/articles-a-an-the/ The 3 articles in English are a, an and the. The learner has to decide noun-by-noun which one of the articles to use. In fact, there are 4 choices to make, because sometimes no article is necessary. Native-speakers, of course, use the articles correctly without thinking. English learners, on the other hand, need to have some guidelines for making the right choice - particularly those learners whose own language does not have articles. The guidelines that follow in this lesson should help ESL students to a basic understanding of English article use. The words a, an and the are known as articles. • We use an before words that begin with vowels (a,e,i,o,u). E.g. I found an orange boat. However there are few exceptions like the words honest and hour. In the words honest and hour the alphabet h is silent and therefore the letter o becomes the first alphabet of the word and hence we use the article an. E.g. Mr. Smith is an honest man. I will be with you in an hour. We use a before words that begin with consonants (all the letters of the alphabet except the vowels). E.g. Bumble is a baby elephant. • We use the before words that we have already spoken about. E.g. I bought an apple. The apple is very sweet.

10-Minute Workout for Total Body Transformation

20:54
How to tone up the whole body? Most of the exercise plans we see online are targeted at certain areas: buttocks, belly, legs, you name it! As a result, the rest of your body doesn't get its dose of love, and you don't get the results you’re hoping for. If you wanna transform your body completely, you need a total body toning workout. Exercises with resistance bands are very simple, they can help you achieve great results and they can also be done anywhere. If you want to have a full-fledged workout, you don’t necessarily need to go to the gym or buy weights: this simple and effective tool will help you develop your muscles by using the force of resistance. We at Bright Side have tried a short workout with these resistance bands and want to show you the series of exercises that we enjoyed the most. You can choose just a few of them, but in order to achieve the best results, we recommend doing all the exercises. TIMESTAMPS: Exercise #1: Leg swings 0:52 Exercise #2: Side steps 2:33 Exercise #3: Squats 4:08 Exercise #4: Lunges 5:26 Exercise #5: Knees to chest 7:04 Exercise #6: Upward leg swings 8:43 Exercise #7: Bicycle 10:26 Exercise #8: Bridge 11:50 Exercise #9: Inner thighs exercise 13:18 Exercise #10: Deltoid exercise 14:55 Exercise #11: Biceps and triceps exercise 15:12 Exercise #12: Ultimate arm muscle exercise 17:14 Exercise #13: Stretching 18:46 #bodytraining #burnfat #workout Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - #1. The tighter you make it, the harder and more effective the exercise will be. - #2. If you’re using a band, put it on your hips right above your knees. Now step to the side, bending your knees a little bit and slightly lowering your upper body. - #3. Stand straight with your legs hip-width apart, and leave your band in the same position. From here, bend your knees as if sitting, and slightly lower your upper body. - #4. Take a big step forward with your right leg. If you’re exercising with a resistance band, stand on it with the leg you put forward, and hold the ends. - #5. Get into a plank position. If you’re using the band, grab the ends of it with your hands, and put your right leg in between it. - #6. Leave the band in the same position if you’re using it, and stand on all fours. From here, push your right leg up with your knee bent. - #7. The bicycle exercise trains your legs, abs, and buttocks. In addition, it increases your core strength and stamina, especially if you're doing it with a resistance band. - #8. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your resistance band fixed right above them. From this position, lift your hips up while keeping your shoulders firmly on the floor. - #9. Lie on your right side with your right elbow on the floor and your knees slightly bent. Raise your left leg while keeping it bent. - #10. Put your resistance band on the ground, and step into the middle of it. Take the ends, put your arms in front of your stomach, and swing your right arm to the right and your left arm to the left. - #11. Put your resistance band on your wrists, lift your arms, and bend them a little. Now push your arms out to the sides, and return them back to the initial position. - #12. Put your left arm in front of your chest and your right one a bit lower. Hold your resistance band with your right hand, and fix it next to your left wrist. - #13. Put your hands behind your back, holding the resistance band. From this position, pull the band up with your right hand. Hold it like that for about 2 seconds, and then lower it back down. How To Train For Mass | Arnold Schwarzenegger's Blueprint Training Program

17:13
Learn some of Arnold Schwarzenegger's favorite classic bodybuilding exercises and preferred training techniques for building muscle. Get the knowledge you need to train for mass! ► Arnold Schwarzenegger's Blueprint to Mass: http://bbcom.me/2EqSJTB ► Arnold Schwarzenegger's Blueprint to Cut: http://bbcom.me/2EqDPg8 When it comes to bodybuilding, Arnold Schwarzenegger knows best. His plan for quality mass and extreme strength isn't complicated. In fact, it's steeped in the fundamentals and old-school exercises that should be at the heart of everyone's program. It's a surefire road to growth, but it's fraught with pain and struggle. If you want to learn bodybuilding from the world's best bodybuilder, you're in the right place. | Basics Are Best | "The biggest mistake being made in bodybuilding today is that people aren't covering basic exercises," says the Austrian Oak. And by basic, Arnold doesn't mean easy. Many contemporary fitness centers are full of people on machines, not in squat racks, and big-box gyms often lack even a single platform. Arnold disapproves: "Today, when I go in the gymnasium, I don't see any of the kids learning about the clean and press, or the snatch, or the upright row from the floor." Schwarzenegger's insistence on the essential lifts is not due to some grandfatherly desire to live in the past. It comes from decades of continued interest and expertise in the industry, and from the hard-earned knowledge that it doesn't take fancy machines or off-the-wall programming to become arguably the best bodybuilder in history. Get back to your bodybuilding roots and experience unbelievable growth. | Arnold Schwarzenegger's Training Tips | Chest: "There are three chest exercises that should always be done," Arnold says. "The bench press, the incline bench press at different angles, and the dumbbell flye." Back: "For back, I did chin-ups, bent-over barbell and dumbbell rows, and the T-bar row. Any kind of rowing movement will give you that thickness. Those are the exercises I relied on from the beginning of my career to the end." Arms: Arnold relied on the barbell curl to build thick biceps, but he also used incline dumbbell curls and concentration curls to isolate his biceps. "For triceps," Arnold says, "we did a lot of narrow [close-grip] bench press in the early days. And then triceps push downs and overhead triceps extensions later." Shoulders: Arnold's shoulders were built by barbell presses, behind-the-neck barbell presses, lateral raises, military presses, and dumbbell presses. "We always did presses behind the neck and a special dumbbell press which would stretch out the front delt at the bottom and fully flex it at the top. Now those are called Arnold presses." Legs "The squat is the most important exercise to create big thighs," says Arnold. "I did back squats, front squats, leg extensions, lunges, single-leg deadlifts, good morning exercises, and a lot of leg curls." Abs: "The regular training we did for abs was just leg raises, knee raises, crunches, and sit-ups. We all believed in doing 500 reps of Roman chair sit-ups." ► Arnold Schwarzenegger's Blueprint Training Program: http://bbcom.me/2yHIrMh #Bodybuilding #Arnold #Motivation #BodybuildingMotivation #ArnoldSchwarzenegger ============================================= | Recommended Mass-Building Supplements | ► Protein: http://bbcom.me/2yIG7EC ► Pre-Workouts: http://bbcom.me/2yIppoW ► Testosterone Support: http://bbcom.me/2yHEdUI ► Creatine: http://bbcom.me/2yHkBQE ► Post-Workout: http://bbcom.me/2yHke8I ============================================= | Bodybuilding.com | Sales & Specials ► http://bbcom.me/1pzVaL9 Fitness Articles ► http://bbcom.me/1pzVg5e #1 Online Supplement Store ► http://bbcom.me/1pzViu5 Free Fitness Plans ► http://bbcom.me/1pzVkCb ============================================= | Follow Us | YouTube ► http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 Facebook ► http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr Instagram ► http://bit.ly/1LzBxab Twitter ► http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL Google+ ► http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu Pinterest ► http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 Spotify ► http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. Monster Monday At-Home HIIT Workout: FYR: Hannah Eden's 30 Day Fitness Plan by RSP

33:31
Check out FYR: Hannah Eden's 30-Day Fitness Plan, the new program along with RSP Nutrition. The program is unique, intense, and can be done at home. ► FYR: Hannah Edens 30-Day Fitness Pan: http://bbcom.me/2G7BBC3 ► Shop RSP Supplements: http://bbcom.me/2G7Xwcx Hannah Eden is quickly becoming a legend in the strength and fitness community, and not just because of her hair color (although it doesn't hurt). She's also a perfect blend of superhuman workhorse, talented teacher, and inspirational force of nature. FYR stands for "Find your reason," Hannah's motto and mantra. But while FYR is definitely going to challenge you, it's not about senseless punishment. It's about giving your body and mind the perfect dose of intensity, over and over, until you emerge 30 days later stronger and more inspired than ever. It's about finding your reason to keep going, keep growing, and keep improving as an athlete and a person. There's nothing to be gained by trying in vain to keep up with someone who is on a completely different level from you. That's why each FYR workout has three levels of technique and exertion to choose from: beginner (Tanner, on the left), intermediate (Paulo, on the right), or elite badass (Hannah). 7 Easy Exercises for a Flat Stomach and Small Waist

13:19
A flat stomach and a small waist is a goal of many women, and very often even extensive workouts don’t help, or we simply don’t have enough time or will power for those. The good news is that we’ve put together a set of exercises for your abs and waist that you can do without getting up from your chair. Remember warming-up is an extremely important part of any workout. Continue with oblique twists. Thanks to them, you’ll be kissing that muffin top goodbye and saying hello to a slimmer waist and stronger abs. Forward bends develop a muscle called the Rectus Abdominis, which is the long flat muscle that helps flex the spinal column. When trained properly, it’ll give you a perfectly flat and toned tummy. Knees to the chest give a nice workout to your thigh muscles and the Rectus Abdominis muscle. Leg raises are great at getting rid of that annoying lower belly pooch we’d all love to send packing. As you strengthen your abs, doing knee circles will get easier with time. Losing weight requires not only physical training but also a healthy diet. Try to keep count of how many calories you consume according to the number recommended for your age, gender, and lifestyle. Your diet must be well-balanced. Half of your daily calorie consumption should come from carbs, 30% from proteins, and 20% from fats. Foods containing Omega-9 fatty acids will make you feel fuller longer, so you won’t overeat. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Warming-up 0:43 Oblique twists 1:42 Forward bends 2:55 Knees to the chest 3:56 Leg raises 6:23 Knee circles 8:40 Scissors 9:59 Some more useful recommendations 11:33 SUMMARY -Warming-up prepares you muscles up for working out, which is extremely important. Even if your training last just 5 minutes, you still have to get ready for it. -Oblique twists target those stubborn obliques. As a result, you’ll be kissing that muffin top goodbye and saying hello to a slimmer waist and stronger abs. -Forward bends are just as good as traditional ab exercises like crunches or sit-ups. When trained properly, they’ll give you a perfectly flat and toned tummy. -Knees to the chest exercise allows you to train both the Rectus Abdominis muscle and the obliques. Plus, even your thigh muscles get a nice workout too. -Leg raises might feel difficult, but you need to involve your legs to develop the muscles of your upper and lower abs. -Knee circles are super effective at training your upper and lower abdominal muscles as well as your obliques. -Scissors work not only your abs but also your inner thighs. -Losing weight requires not only physical training but also a healthy well-balanced diet. 8 English Sentences: Find the Mistakes

08:16
Can you find the mistakes in these English sentences? In today's lesson, you'll review 8 grammar rules of correct English sentences. You'll get to practice correcting sentences with me in the video. Once you learn these easy grammar rules, you'll avoid making common mistakes and improve your marks on English essays and exams like IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC. To test if you really understand these rules, take the quiz. Good luck with your English! http://www.engvid.com/8-english-sentences-find-the-mistakes/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, my name's Rebecca. For the next few minutes, let's pretend you are the English teacher and you're correcting your student's homework. Let's look at some of these sentences and see if you can find some of the errors in these English sentences. Okay, the first sentence: "My mother she works in a bank." Is that okay? Well, let me tell you right now that actually none of these sentences are okay; there is a mistake in every sentence. So see if you can find the mistake. Okay? "My mother she works in a bank." What's the mistake? Okay... Here, "she", all right? I'm just going to grab a different marker. So what happened here is we said: "My mother she works in a bank." So we cannot repeat the subject. The mistake here is that we had a double subject; the subject was mentioned twice. In English, you can't do that. You just mention the subject once. So this sentence, in order to be correct, would need to be: "My mother works in a bank." Or: "She works in a bank." If you know who "she" is. Right? But you can't say both. So no double subjects. Number two: "John is an engineer" What's wrong with that? Look carefully. Well, what's wrong is that it's missing the punctuation. All right? Part of a correct sentence is correct punctuation. So here, there was no period at the end of the sentence, that's what was wrong. Next sentence: "The manager of my department" What's wrong with that? Well, what's wrong is that it's not a sentence because it doesn't have any verb, there's no verb there. Okay? And, of course, you need to continue this sentence, and then eventually you'd need to have some punctuation as well. But basically, there is no... This is a sentence fragment. This is called only a part of a sentence. It is not a complete English sentence or a correct English sentence. There is no verb. Missing verb. Next one: "we enjoy watching old movies." Okay? Again, look carefully. What's wrong there? Well, it has a subject, it has a verb, but this is the problem. The first letter in the first word of an English sentence has to be capitalized and that's what was missing here. You see, we didn't have that problem before. Okay. Next one: "I like very much Chinese food." Okay? Maybe that sounds okay to you, but doesn't sound okay to me. It's close, but not quite. What's wrong? Well, what's wrong here is this, the word order. Not only do you need to have certain elements, you need to have the words in the right order. So in English, the correct order for this sentence would be: "I like Chinese food very much." Okay? Not: "very much Chinese food." "I like Chinese food very much." Okay? Next: "Maria need help with her hw." "Maria need help with her homework." What's wrong there? Okay? So the mistake is here, the mistake is in subject-verb agreement. The verb has to agree with the subject. Right? And if we say: "Maria", it's like: "she", and we would have to say: "She needs". "Maria needs help with her hw." So the error here was in subject-verb agreement. Next one: "delivered the package yesterday" Okay? "delivered the package yesterday" What's wrong here? Well, it's similar to this one, except here, we had a sentence fragment and we had the subject. Here, we have a sentence fragment, and we have a verb, but we don't have a subject. We have a missing subject. So this is also a sentence fragment. "Fragment" means only part. It is not a complete sentence. Next one: "We recieved your letter." "We recieved your letter." Sounds fine, but if you're an English teacher, you're going to look really carefully at each of the words. And what's wrong is here, the mistake is here. It's a spelling mistake. Okay? The word "received" is one of those tricky words with the "e" and the "i", and the "i" and the "e" that you have to learn very well. So spelling mistakes will also bring down your marks. If you're doing the IELTS, if you're bring... Doing the TOEFL, any errors of this kind will bring your marks down. Okay? So even though they seem very basic, I know from experience that students make all of these mistakes. Be very careful not to make them. Let's look at what principles apply to correct English sentences. Okay? So, an English sentence must express a complete thought and it must express it with certain elements. Now, just because a sentence must express a complete thought, it doesn't have to have a lot of words; it doesn't have to be a very long sentence.

This lesson comes from a request by Aditya from Maharashtra, India. Aditya says he is preparing for a competitive exam and he has to do reading comprehension exercises as part of the exam, and he wants to know the best way to do these. Before we start, if you want to request a lesson, just leave a comment. In your comment, tell me your name, and I will mention you in the video. OK, in this lesson I will give you some important tips and strategies for reading comprehension exercises. I will give you a reading plan that you can follow, and there are exercises in this lesson for you to practice. Alright, now my teaching experience is mostly with exams like the IELTS and TOEFL, but the tips that I give you in this lesson will help you in any exam situation. So the first thing is: when it comes to reading in an exam, budget your time. That means: you should know how many reading passages there are in the exam, how many exercises there are and how much time you have. In the IELTS exam, for example, there are three reading passages and you have one hour to do all of them. So then divide your time amongst those passages – for IELTS, you might spend roughly 20 minutes per passage. In some exams, one passage might be shorter or easier, and another passage might be longer or more difficult. In that case, obviously, you should plan to spend less time on the short passage, and more time on the long passage. And you should time yourself – if you are allowed to wear a watch in your exam, look at your watch and keep track of the time. If you plan for 20 minutes per passage, stick to that plan. Now, if you’re not allowed to wear a watch, then use the clock in the room or hall, or ask the invigilators how much time you have left. Alright, that’s the first thing: budgeting your time. So now the exam starts – and you have the first reading passage in front of you – what do you do? Well, I’ll tell you what you should NOT do – don’t start at the beginning and read slowly to the finish. Many students do this – and the problem is that when you get to the end, you will have forgotten a lot of the details in the middle, and when you read the questions, you have to go back and read the passage again to find the answers. Instead, here’s the plan that you should follow: your first step in reading should be to skim the passage. What does that mean? Well, skimming is actually something that we do with milk. It’s when you heat or boil milk, and the fat rises to the top in the form of cream. Removing that layer of fat is called skimming. When it comes to reading, skimming means to read the surface of the text quickly to understand the overall message. So if there’s a heading or title to the passage, and if there are subheadings, read all of these first. They will tell you the subject of the text. Then read the first sentence of each paragraph – they will give you a good idea of the overall message. Let’s practice this. You see two paragraphs on the screen, but only the first sentence in each paragraph is visible. Stop the video, read the sentences and try to understand the main topic in each paragraph. Alright, so what do you think the topic of the whole passage might be? It could be the negative effects of social media on children. What about the first paragraph? What is it about? Well it says that using social media can affect a child’s writing skills. And the second paragraph? It says that some people don’t agree with this – that is, the first paragraph – for two reasons: scientific reasons and practical reasons (pragmatic).

There are three of these: the period or the full stop, the exclamation mark, and the question mark. Let’s look at the period first. This mark is called the period in American English (AmE means American English), and it’s called the full stop in British English. It is used to mark the end of declarative and imperative sentences. I’ll explain. Here are some examples: “I teach English.” “We had pizza for dinner last night.” “If it rains tomorrow, I’ll bring my umbrella.” These sentences are called declarative sentences because they declare something; they give us some information. And at the end of each sentence, you see a period or full stop. Imperative sentences are commands or requests: “Please don’t feed the animals.” You might see this on a sign in a zoo. “Let me know what time your flight arrives.” “If it rains tomorrow, bring your umbrella.” Let’s now turn to the exclamation mark. It is used to convey strong emotion or feeling. Have a look at these two sentences: Both of them mean the same thing. The first sentence, which ends in a period, has no special feeling or emotion; it’s like saying “I’m really excited about my new job.” Doesn’t sound like I’m very excited, does it? That’s why we use the exclamation mark: “I’m really excited about my new job!” – it tells our reader to read the sentence with emotion – in this sentence, the emotion is excitement. This next sentence: “If you come to work late tomorrow, you’re fired!” Imagine a manger saying this to an employee. So, this expresses anger. In the same way, you can show many other feelings including surprise, joy, fear etc. using the exclamation mark. Now, both of these sentences are declarative, but you can also use the exclamation mark in an imperative sentence like this one: “Johnny, don’t play with your food!” You can imagine a mother saying that angrily to her son. So, it’s a strong or strict command. Another place where we use the exclamation mark is after interjections. Here are a couple of sentences: “Ouch! You just stepped on my foot!” “Wow! What a beautiful house!” Interjections are words like “ouch” and “wow” which are used to express feelings. So, remember: if you want to convey strong emotion in a sentence, put an exclamation mark at the end of it. If there’s no special feeling, just end the sentence with a period. OK, let’s turn now to the third terminal punctuation symbol: the question mark. It is used to mark the end of a question. So, it’s very straightforward: if a sentence is a question, then put a question mark at the end of it. Here are some examples: “What do you do?” “Are we allowed to feed the animals?” “If it rains tomorrow, should I bring my umbrella?” “Are you excited about your new job?” “Who lives in that house?” So, the rule is: if a sentence is a question, it must end with a question mark. Alright, let’s do a small exercise now. There are four sentences on the screen. I want you to add periods or full stops, exclamation marks and question marks where necessary. Stop the video, think about your answers, then play the video and check. OK, here are the answers. If you want, stop the video again, check your answers, then play the video and continue. Before we move on to the next topic, a quick note on spacing. Notice that there is no space between the last letter of a sentence and the terminal punctuation mark. If you put a space there, it’s wrong. But, when you begin a new sentence, you should leave a space after the terminal mark, and you should start the new sentence with a capital letter.
