9 Things You Shouldn't Do on an Empty Stomach

10:36
9 important things you should avoid doing on an empty stomach. And by “empty stomach” we mean no less than two hours after your last meal. “You are what you eat” is a statement known to everyone. But do you know that what we do before a meal also has a great impact on our health? Also, we have a bonus: what you should eat when you're really hungry. Stay healthy! TIMESTAMPS Taking anti-inflammatories 0:49 Drinking coffee 1:48 Drinking alcohol 2:49 Chewing gum 3:45 Going to bed 4:52 Intense training 5:55 Shopping 6:50 Drinking citrus juice 7:47 Arguing 8:49 SUMMARY What you can do when you’re hungry. Well, there are at least two things that you should on an empty stomach. 1. Solve problems. Your ability to concentrate reduces when you’re hungry. According to research, this is the legacy of our early ancestors who had to focus all their efforts to get food. The hunger hormone also helps to perform various tasks, stimulating the brain activity. 2. Make choices. If you can’t decide on what to choose, try doing it on an empty stomach. Research shows that hunger leads people into more successful, even though more impulsive, decisions. Of course, you’d better not use this method when matters of finances, relationships, or health are at stake. 9 Signs You're Much Smarter Than You Think

10:04
Are you smart or average? How would you describe a genius? Einstein’s grandnephew who knows the answer to every test question ever? Or maybe it is a smart person who can solve any problem? We have news for you: it is not just about your genes, grades, or life experience. Scientists have revealed ten signs of a wise person we bet you’ve ignored. TIMESTAMPS You don’t smoke 0:36 You’re not the loud type 1:32 You can find a connection between just about anything 2:34 You're a liberal 3:47 You often ask yourself the big questions 4:48 You’re super loyal 5:54 You have surprising hobbies 6:45 You like to take risks 7:46 You bite your nails 8:54 SUMMARY - Dr. Mark Weiser who works for Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer and his colleagues believe there is a link between smoking and intelligence. They found that the more you smoke, the lower your IQ is. - Super smart people are mostly quiet. They don’t babble, and they don’t often initiate conversations. Why? They are too busy thinking. - Creativity is about drawing lines between what seems to be disconnected from others. It is possible for those who have experienced more things and have analyzed that experience. Doesn’t it sound like the definition of being wise? Those wise people normally come up with the most genius ideas. - One of the signs of being super smart is to be bold enough to accept ideas that move our world forward. - The more you think about the nature and future of everything around you, the more you realize different scenarios are possible. You know that at some point, it could all go wrong, and it’s making you anxious. Being always alert and prepared for whatever may come your way is typical for smart people. - Those who successfully beat the desire to do it and are loyal partners to just one special individual tend to be smarter than those who cheat and sleep around. It is also explained in that intelligent liberals study by evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa. - . If you are a computer systems analyst who gets new ideas from origami or a chef who is inspired by furniture design, you are pretty much a creative genius. It has to do with the ability to relate the totally unrelated and being bold enough to try new things and design new concepts. - When we speak of risks, we don’t mean life-threatening stuff like jumping off the roofs and train surfing. Risks are the new challenges and ideas that you gladly try out of curiosity. And, quite a bit of adrenalin, as well. - Nail biting has been largely considered just a nervous habit, yet recent studies show it may be a demonstration of perfectionism. According to psychologists, such body-focused habits as skin picking, pulling your hair or biting your nails help fight boredom and soothe dissatisfaction. Have you found any of these signs in yourself? Or maybe you just realized your friend is much wiser than you thought? Feel free to share in the comments. DESTROY YOUR VOICE in 5 easy steps! | Singing habits to AVOID | #DrDan 🎤

09:02
Bad singing habits to AVOID! Looking for singing tips on how to sing? You’ve heard it said that your body is a temple…well in the case of the singer that old saying translates into, “Your instrument is a temple!” If you don’t look after your voice it simply won’t perform at its optimum. -- FREE DOWNLOAD -- Download Dr Dan's first singing exercise track for FREE: http://drdan.co/exerciseCD 1:06 Eat, Drink and be Merry If you’re looking to improve your voice then the first thing you need to do is treat your body the same way a professional athlete treat’s theirs. You are a vocal athlete! This means that everything you do will have an impact on your voice. 2:01 Choose the Wrong Singing Teacher Every professional athlete has a coach someone to observe, instruct and correct. Singers are no different. We need someone who can watch, listen and provide feedback for the refinement of our voice. This being said, it’s really important that you choose the right singing teacher for you. 3:14 Sing when you are Sick Singing while you’re sick is simply not worth the risk to your vocal health. Please heed this warning: you can do significant damage to your voice during one set of songs – especially if the health of the voice is already compromised due to general illness. 4:26 Deny you have a vocal problem Raspiness, inconsistent tone, an inability to maintain pitch, and reduced vocal stamina are all signs that your voice has been compromised. This doesn’t necessarily mean that your voice has sustained damage of a pathological nature. Sure, you might have nodules, a vocal fold cyst or a contact granuloma, but it could equally be a functional issue requiring simple instruction on how to operate your voice more efficiently. 5:29 Don't look after your Ears We spend a lot of time as singers worrying about the health of our larynx. We should pay equal attention to the health of our ears. Let’s face it, if you can’t hear well your singing is going to become a darn sight harder. 6:42 Habitually Clear Your Throat When you get into the poor habit of slamming your vocal folds together every few minutes the vocal folds respond by swelling in order to cushion and protect themselves from the repetitive impact. You already know that swollen vocal folds is not a good thing and adds to general wear and tear of the voice. If you want to look after your voice…stop all that throat clearing and replace it with a simple swallow instead. –––––––––––––––––––––––– Welcome to Voice Essentials where everybody sings. Each week we upload new videos purposefully designed to encourage your vocal journey. So if learning to sing is your thing then we invite you to subscribe and join our ever-growing community of passionate singers from across the globe, who just like you, want to raise their voice in song. #VoiceEssentials And a small side note (because I'm asked a lot): It is important to note that while I hold a doctorate (thus I am Dr Dan), I am not a medical doctor, and the advice provided in this video is generalised information only; and therefore you should always consult with your health care professional for personalized advice about your vocal health and well-being. #DrDan SUBSCRIBE for weekly singing tips – http://drdan.co/sub-drdan START Dr Dan's FREE '7 Days to a Better Voice' program – http://drdan.co/7daysbettervoice -- FREE DOWNLOAD -- Download Dr Dan's first exercise track for FREE: http://drdan.co/exerciseCD -- DON'T MISS ANOTHER VIDEO: Follow these steps -- 1. A young fashion rebel by the name Griswold Lorillard created a stir by wearing a tail-less jacket to a white-tie-and-tails ball at an exclusive country club event. The location was Tuxedo Park, New York. The conservative host was appalled at this blatant disrespect towards tradition and kicked Lorillard and his friends out of the party. It was too late to stop the new trend. The tail-less adaptation of the jacket grew in popularity because society was tired of the fastidious tail coat. English Grammar: MUST & HAVE TO

13:49
Do we say "I must do my homework" or "I have to do my homework"? In English, we use "must" and "have to" to express a strong rule or law. In this grammar lesson, I will teach you about the modal verbs "must" and "have to" in both their negative and positive forms. In the positive form, their function is the same, but their subject-verb agreement is different. In the negative form, we use "don't have to" to talk about options or advice. You must watch the video to get the full explanation with examples. You don't have to do the quiz, but I strongly recommend you do: https://www.engvid.com/english-grammar-must-have-to/ #engvid #LearnEnglish #EnglishGrammar Next, watch this video about a very common mistake in English, forgetting to use the 's': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf861z0MuMc&index=45&list=PLpLRk365gbPaY0U_9zYYRY5JmStMZ9NSI TRANSCRIPT You must watch this lesson. You just have to watch this lesson. It's really important, because it'll help you, and it's confusing in English. Actually, you don't have to watch this lesson, if you don't want to; it's your choice, but you've already clicked on it, so let's continue. I'm going to explain to you two modal verbs that are really confusing in English because the positive and the negative have different meanings. Let's start with the first one and the easiest one. You guys have learned this, I'm sure before, if you studied grammar; or if you haven't studied grammar, you guys maybe have even heard about this. It's confusing. So, what I'm going to teach you today is the difference between the modals: "must" and "have to". In the positive, "must" and "have to" have the exact same meaning or the exact same function. When we use this grammar... It's grammar. When we use this grammar, "must" you can think about it like a law or a rule. Okay? Something that is very, very, very important; basically, if you don't do it, there will be bad things that will happen. So: "must" and "have to" we both use for very strong rules or laws. So, I want you to think about in your daily life. Or I'll give you an example of travelling. So you're going to get on an airplane, so you go to the airport. What are some things you must have to get on the airplane? One, you must have-or you have to have-an airplane ticket. If you don't have an airplane ticket, you're not going to get on that airplane, so you buy one. The second thing that you must have-or you have to have-is a passport or some kind of legal ID; depending on where you are travelling to. If you're flying internationally to a different country, you definitely have to have-or must have-a passport. It's important to have money. You must have some money, or you have to have some money. How are you going to live? How are you...? You got money. Okay. So: "must" and "have to" in the positive form are exactly the same. I don't care what anyone else has told you before; I don't care what your grammar books tell you; I don't care what your mom tells you - "must" and "have to" in the positive are completely equal. We don't make a difference. You have to do this or you must do this - the ending is the same. It's a rule or a law; if you don't do it, there's going to be some problems or you just won't be accepted. Can you think of an example in your life that you have rule or a law that you must or have to do? Good. Okay. Let's look at also the grammar of "have to". So, "must" is very easy. It's going to be subject plus "must" plus your base verb. This is called a modal verb, which is "must". So, for example: Subject plus "must" plus your base verb. "I must have a ticket to get on that airplane." If I don't have a ticket, I can't get on the airplane. But when we use "have to", we have to be very, very careful or we must be careful with our subject and our verb agreement. So, if you have: "He", "She" or "It", we have to say: "has to"; but if you use: "I", "We", "They", or "You", we have to say or we must say: "have to". So: "It has to be great.", "We have to go now; it's very important." So, be careful with our grammar. The "must" one is easier. So, if you're deciding on which one you like better - choose "must" because you don't have to worry about the subject and the verb agreement. But again, they are not different. "Must" and "have to" are exactly the same. The structure is different, but the function or the way we use it is exactly the same. You choose which one you like the most. The negative of "must not" is basically telling us a rule in the negative. For example, you can say: "On the airplane, you must not smoke." This is a very, very strict law or rule on any airplane in any country of the world that smoking is prohibited; you can't do it. If you do it, you will get arrested which means you'll go to jail. I don't know if you go to jail, but definitely the police will come and you have to pay a lot of money, so don't do it. […]

Speaking English: How to say P, F, B, V

10:50
http://www.engvid.com/ Do you want to sound like a native speaker? Practice your pronunciation with me! P, F, B, and V can be difficult to pronounce, especially since some languages do not have these exact sounds in their alphabet. In this lesson I will teach you how to easily start pronouncing these letters correctly. You'll also learn the difference between voiced and unvoiced letters. Improve your pronunciation of English words with me, Ronnie! http://www.engvid.com/speaking-english-p-f-b-v/ TRANSCRIPT Welcome to the pronunciation lesson with Ronnie. That took me a bit, but I've gotten it now. Today, I'm going to teach you the differences between one, two, three, four letters in English that are very difficult. But after you hear and see this lesson, it's going to be a lot easier for you. Again, with most letter sounds in English, the reason why it's so difficult is because in your language, maybe you do not have this sound at all. Or the sounds in your languages are very, very similar. So instead of saying a P, it's a mix between a P and an F. So let's go through one thing that's very, very important when you're learning any word that you're going to say, and it is what I've written in blue here: unvoiced and voiced. Do you know what the difference is between "unvoiced" and "voiced"? I will teach you. What you've to do is you have to put your hand on your throat. Not too hard. Don't kill yourselves. And you're going to make this sound. Just the letter. You're going to "puh, puh, puh." Now, when you make the "puh" sound, you've to be careful of two things. The first one is your mouth. What is your mouth doing? Okay? When you make the P sound, your lips have to go together and blow out like you're smoking. So it's "puh, puh". Okay? I like to call this "kiss mouth". So when you make a kiss mouth, it's like you're going to kiss someone. You go, "puh". Or you can call it a "smoking mouth". It doesn't matter. When you are saying the P sound, you're going to make your kiss mouth, "puh"; you're going to put your hand on your throat; and you're going to realize that your throat or your vocal cords do not vibrate. So try. "Puh, puh". You should not feel any vibration in your throat. This non-vibration is called "unvoiced". So if something is "unvoiced", it means it does not vibrate in your throat. So "unvoiced" means no vibration. Okay? So the P sound is a kiss with no vibration. Let's look at an example of a "voiced" letter. We're going to make the same mouth style, and we're going to blow a kiss or a smoke. But the difference between the P "puh" and the B, is that when we make the B sound, you have to vibrate your throat or your vocal cords. So you have to go "buh, buh, buh". Your lips are making the same movement, but the vocal cords are going to vibrate. So try this. "Buh, buh, buh." Then, if you do it without voicing it, it's "puh, puh, puh". So your lips are making the same movement, but your vocal cords vibrate and do not vibrate. So if it's voiced, it means that your vocal cords vibrate. The next letter that a lot of people have problems with is the F. Now, when I make the F sound -- "fff, fff" -- I need to do something very important. I need to take my teeth and stick them out over my bottom lip. I like to call these "beaver teeth". Have you ever seen a beaver? Do beavers have teeth? Sometimes, the animal beaver has teeth. And beavers have very predominant -- very big front teeth because they chew trees. So when I say "beaver teeth", I mean you stick your teeth out like a beaver. Okay? So this sound is very different from the P and the B sound because first of all, your mouth is making a different position. So when you make the F sound, your teeth are out, and it is unvoiced. So again, you're going to put your hand on your throat and go "fff". The air is going to come out at the bottom of your teeth between your bottom lip and your top teeth. So it's "fff". It feels like you're pushing the air down. "Fff." With the P and the B, you're pushing the air out like you're smoking. With the F, the air is going down. So try. "Fff, fff, fff." When we say the V sound or the "vuh", again, we're going to have beaver teeth. So you're going to stick your teeth out, except this time, it is voiced. So like the F sound, same mouth position, but you must vibrate your vocal cords. So it's "vuh, vuh, vuh." This is rather difficult, so I suggest you practice. "Vuh, vuh, vuh." It might take a little bit of time and a little bit of practice for you to get it. But the important thing for you to understand is that F does not vibrate, and "vuh" vibrates. So a lot of people maybe have problems with the B and the F, okay? So you've to look at this. The B is a kiss mouth, "buh, buh". And the F is a beaver mouth, and it's "fff, fff".

Improve Your Writing - 6 ways to compare

10:33
One of the most common types of essays you will have to write at university as well as on the IELTS or TOEFL is a comparison essay. In this lesson, I will teach you some useful words that will help you to compare things. By the end of this video, you will be able to use terms such as "alike", "similar", "in the same way", "likewise", and more. Take my quiz at the end for more experience using these words. http://www.engvid.com/writing-6-ways-to-compare/ TRANSCRIPT Hello. My name is Emma, and in today's video, I am going to teach you some key words you can use when you talk about how things are the same or similar. Okay? So when you compare two things -- when you're comparing apples and oranges, there are some similarities. They're both fruits. When you're comparing shopping to skiing, when you're comparing a city to a country or the countryside -- there is a certain language we like to use when we're saying how these things are similar or the same. In this video, I'm going to teach you a bunch of expressions you can use when comparing two things to show their similarities. Okay? So this video is called "Talking about similarities". So for this video, I decided I wanted to do a theme. I wanted to look at how Canada and England are similar. In what ways are they very much alike? Okay? So each of my sentences are going to have to do with Canada and England, and we're going to look at how they're alike using these comparison words. So for those of you watching, if you are doing the TOEFL, these words are essential. If you are doing the IELTS -- very important vocabulary here. General English, you can use these at university for essays, college, or even just general conversation. So let's get started. Okay. So how are Canada and England the same? Well, I would say, first of all, both Canada and England have a queen. Both Canada and England have Queen Elizabeth. So one word we often use when we're talking about similarities is this word, "both". Both Canada and England have a queen. Both Canada and England have trees. Both Canada and England have cities. Okay? So there are a lot of different things you can compare. This is just one of them. Now, I want to say why I wrote the word "beginning" here. "Both" often comes at the beginning of a sentence. And notice how the construction is. We have both A and B. Another example, "Both cats and dogs are animals." "Both hamsters and mice are rodents." Okay? So we use this a lot when we're comparing. We can also say "like". In this case, we're not saying, "I like Canada" or "I like" -- you know, showing preference -- we're again showing similarity. "Like Canada, England has many immigrants." Canada has many immigrants. England has many immigrants. "Like Canada, England has many immigrants." And again, you'll notice "like" is at the beginning of the sentence. It's often -- not always, but often -- at the beginning. We have it followed by a noun. I could change this to something else. Imagine if I wanted to compare cats and dogs. "Like cats, dogs have fur." Okay? I could say that. If I'm comparing men and women, "Like women, men are human." Okay? It's not the greatest of comparisons, but you can use these types of words when you're comparing. Okay? So now, I have some other things I want to compare. In England, they speak English. In Canada, we also speak English. Not everybody, but many Canadians speak English. Some speak French, but a lot of people speak English. So I'm going to teach you some words you can use when comparing these two sentences. "In England, they speak English. Similarly, in Canada many people speak English, too. In comparison, in Canada many people also speak English. In the same way, in Canada many people speak English." And finally, another way similar to this but slightly different, "Likewise, in Canada many people speak English." So these are a little bit different from these ones. They all mean how they are the same. But you'll notice one of the differences here is these are followed by a comma. "Likewise, comma." And then, we have the rest of the sentence. These go at the beginning of the sentence. Okay? In case you can't tell, this is a period. So we have our first sentence, "In England, they speak English. Similarly, in Canada many people speak English." Okay? So you can use these in your writing. They would really, really help on your TOEFL, IELTS, or university essays to help you get a better mark.

Transcript: ‘Will’ and ‘shall’ are two of the most challenging words in English, even for native speakers. But in this lesson, I will show you how to use these two words correctly, and avoid making common mistakes with them. So let’s begin. Welcome back. Before we start, as always, if you have any questions at all, just ask me in the comments section below, and I will talk to you there. Now, in this lesson, I will teach you the two important rules for using ‘will’ and ‘shall’ correctly, and we will discuss how to use them in questions to make requests, offers, and suggestions. There is a final quiz at the end to test your understanding. OK, so how do you use ‘will’ and ‘shall’ correctly? Well, here’s the short answer. In modern English, ‘shall’ has become uncommon. That means, most people just don’t use ‘shall’. In fact, in American English, ‘shall’ is very rarely used – it’s mainly found in some types of questions, but we shall discuss them later in this lesson. So for now, if you are not sure about the rules, just use ‘will’. It’s perfectly OK to use ‘will’ in all statements – no problem. But I’m sure you are watching this video because you want to know the proper grammatical rules for ‘will’ and ‘shall’, so let’s talk about those now. There are two sets of rules for using ‘will’ and ‘shall’. I call these the ‘normal future’ and the ‘strong future’. Let’s talk about the normal future first. This is when we express a plan, an expectation, or a prediction. The grammar rule says that if the subject of the sentence is ‘I’ or ‘We’, then ‘shall’ should be used. Here are some examples: “I shall wait for you at the train station.” and “We shall not go to the museum if we don’t have time.” You see here that we’re using ‘shall’ because the subjects are ‘I’ and ‘We’. In English, ‘I’ and ‘We’ are known as the first person. If the subject is the second person – ‘You’ or the third person – ‘He’, ‘She’, ‘It’, ‘They’ etc. then ‘will’ should be used. Here are some examples: “You will find the flash drive in the locker.”, “The match will not take place on October 7th.” Instead of ‘The match’, you can also say ‘It will not take place’. And finally, “All employees will receive fire safety training every two years.” Here, you can say ‘They’ instead of ‘All employees.’ Now these sentences on the screen are called the normal future or plain future because they’re normal sentences, and there’s no emotion attached to them. But sometimes, we want to express a strong emotion about the future – it could be a promise, a command, determination or duty. We call this the strong future. The grammar rule is that for the strong future, we reverse ‘will’ and ‘shall’. So now, we’re going to use ‘will’ with the first person: ‘I’ and ‘We’, and ‘shall’ with the second and third person. Take this sentence for example: “I will get an A on this exam. I promise!” Compare this to the previous sentence: “I shall wait for you at the train station.” There’s no emotion there – it’s just a simple future arrangement. But when I say “I will get an A on this exam” you can tell that I’m showing strong determination. So this is the strong future and we use ‘will’. Here’s another example: “We will not tolerate smoking inside the building!” You see that this is a warning, and it’s a strong warning, so we use ‘will’. These are first-person subjects. With second- and third-person subjects we use ‘shall’. For example, “You shall finish your homework before you go out to play.” What type of sentence is this? It’s a command or order. You can imagine a mother saying this to her child. The next example is “The wedding shall not take place!” Compare this to the previous sentence: “The match will not take place on October 7th.”
