SQLDay 2013 | DBA/DEV Track | Denny Cherry - Getting SQL Service Broker Up and Running

57:33
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008 include a fantastic feature that few people understand or use. That feature is the Microsoft SQL Server Service Broker. The SQL Service Broker is one of the least used features within the database engine, and that lack of use is simply from last of knowledge about the feature. In this session we'll dig into how to configure the service broker for not only intra-database message queuing, but database to database queuing as well as server to server database queuing. We will also dig into a real life scenario where the SQL Server Service Broker was used to do ETL from an OLTP database to an OLAP database in near real time for near real time reporting. By the end of this session you'll understand where SQL Service Broker is the right fit to be used, and you'll hopefully be ready to deploy it within your environment. Learn about the SQL Service Broker database objects. Learn how to send and receive messages within a database and how to send and receive messages between servers.

Partially Contained Databases in SQL Server 2012

33:25
For more videos on technology, visit http://www.Techytube.com The biggest problem with SQL Server for a very long time has been that databases on an instance are always tightly coupled to an instance. So once you move your database to a different SQL server instance the database will always face compatibility issues though the target and source server instances were of the same version and Service packs. A database can be dependent on lot of server instance properties such as security, roles, linked servers, CLR, database mail, service broker objects, replication, and SQL Server Agent jobs. Also if the target instance is of different collations as compared to source instance there would be issues with collation compatibility when creating temp objects, executing order by clauses etc. Contained Databases One of the most exciting and new feature of SQL Server 2012 is "Partially Contained Databases" which to a very significant level overcomes all the shortcomings stated above. As the name implies the word "contained" means something within itself and the least dependent on something external. So in short a contained database is independent of the SQL server instance on which it's hosted. Database that is dependent on the SQL server instance are otherwise called as non-contained database. Prior to SQL Server 2012 when a database had to be moved from one instance to another we would had copy the logins existing on the source instance to the target instance else we had the issues of orphan users. More information on ways to fix orphan users http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175475.aspx.Users in a contained database are no longer associated with logins on the instance of SQL Server. You just have to create a database user with password in a partially-contained database and then directly connect to that database. So in short a contained database includes all database settings and metadata required to define the database and has no configuration dependencies on the instance of the SQL Server Database Engine where the database is installed. A contained database will overcome the most painstaking issues a DBA always have to face when moving the databases from instance to another · You can create a database-specific user without a login (and you can create multiple such users with the same name for different databases); · Objects in tempdb would be created in the collation of the calling database context which is not true in case of non-contained databases.

Service Broker en sql server

02:39

How To Connect SQL Server To Crystal Report

01:05:17
Visual Studio 2012 and SQL 2008 create by teacher Chan Volak upload by Mr. Hak Delux In 1988 Microsoft joined Ashton-Tate and Sybase to create a variant of Sybase SQL Server for IBM OS/2 (then developed jointly with Microsoft), which was released the following year.[4] This was the first version of Microsoft SQL Server, and served as Microsoft's entry to the enterprise-level database market, competing against Oracle, IBM, and later, Sybase. SQL Server 4.2 was shipped in 1992, bundled with OS/2 version 1.3, followed by version 4.21 for Windows NT, released alongside Windows NT 3.1. SQL Server 6.0 was the first version designed for NT, and did not include any direction from Sybase. About the time Windows NT was released in July 1993, Sybase and Microsoft parted ways and each pursued its own design and marketing schemes. Microsoft negotiated exclusive rights to all versions of SQL Server written for Microsoft operating systems. (In 1996 Sybase changed the name of its product to Adaptive Server Enterprise to avoid confusion with Microsoft SQL Server.) Until 1994, Microsoft's SQL Server carried three Sybase copyright notices as an indication of its origin. SQL Server 7.0 and SQL Server 2000 included modifications and extensions to the Sybase code base, adding support for the IA-64 architecture. By SQL Server 2005 the legacy Sybase code had been completely rewritten.[5] Since the release of SQL Server 2000, advances have been made in performance, the client IDE tools, and several complementary systems that are packaged with SQL Server 2005. These include: an extract-transform-load (ETL) tool (SQL Server Integration Services or SSIS) a Reporting Server an OLAP and data mining server (Analysis Services) several messaging technologies, specifically Service Broker and Notification Services

Going Asynchronous with Service Broker

01:07:36
Do you have complex operations that have already been tuned for optimum performance, but still run too long for a good end user application experience? If you do, Service Broker may be the solution. This session will explain the benefits of asynchronous processing in Service Broker compared to other options like SQL Agent jobs or SSIS packages, and how to implement the basic components required. Even in SQL Server 2014, Service Broker lacks a UI integration. Not to worry, this session will show you how to configure Service Broker correctly the first time so you can develop easy, foolproof deployments to solve complicated problems. SOA with SQL Server

01:00:29
Speaker: Chad Boyd A key component to any distributed architecture built with SOA methodologies in mind is the database infrastructure. Service Oriented Database Architecture (SODA) is something that is now much easier to implement and much more robust with features present in Sql Server 2005 and the upcoming 2008 release. Technologies such as Service Broker, Native Web Services, Query Notifications, and the SQL CLR built-in to SQL Server today provide the ability to fully realize the SODA architecture. Service Broker is a new queuing and messaging technology available with Sql Server 2005 and further enhanced in SQL 2008. Service Broker can help database developers build secure, asynchronous, reliable, loosely-coupled, scalable applications without requiring complex and expensive add-on software or additional hardware. Native HTTP endpoints allow message-based communication based on SOAP and other protocols that takes advantage of the Windows Server 2003 HTTP kernel-mode driver. Query Notifications allow data-dependent caches to receive a notification that data requires refreshing because the underlying database has changed. The notification is generated based on the original query that was used to create and populate the cache.

The following SQL Script creates 2 tables, 2 stored procedures and a view Create table Departments ( Id int primary key identity, Name nvarchar(50) ) Go Create table Employees ( Id int primary key identity, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10), DeptId int foreign key references Departments(Id) ) Go Create procedure sp_GetEmployees as Begin Select * from Employees End Go Create procedure sp_GetEmployeesandDepartments as Begin Select Employees.Name as EmployeeName, Departments.Name as DepartmentName from Employees join Departments on Employees.DeptId = Departments.Id End Go Create view VwDepartments as Select * from Departments Go How to find dependencies using SQL Server Management Studio Use View Dependencies option in SQL Server Management studio to find the object dependencies For example : To find the dependencies on the Employees table, right click on it and select View Dependencies from the context menu In the Object Dependencies window, depending on the radio button you select, you can find the objects that depend on Employees table and the objects on which Employees table depends on. Identifying object dependencies is important especially when you intend to modify or delete an object upon which other objects depend. Otherwise you may risk breaking the functionality. For example, there are 2 stored procedures (sp_GetEmployees and sp_GetEmployeesandDepartments) that depend on the Employees table. If we are not aware of these dependencies and if we delete the Employees table, both stored procedures will fail with the following error. Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_GetEmployees, Line 4 Invalid object name 'Employees'. There are other ways for finding object dependencies in SQL Server which we will discuss in our upcoming videos. Cache dependency on sql server database table Part 131

Let us understand cache dependency on sql server database table, with an example. First create "tblProducts" table and populate with sample data using the script below CREATE TABLE [tblProducts] ( [Id] [int] PRIMARY KEY IDENTITY, [Name] [nvarchar](50) NULL, [Description] [nvarchar](250) NULL ) Insert into tblProducts values ('Laptops', 'Dell Laptops') Insert into tblProducts values ('iPhone', 'iPhone 4S') Insert into tblProducts values ('LCD TV', 'Samsung LCD TV') Insert into tblProducts values ('Desktop', 'HP Desktop Computer') To enable SqlCacheDependency on the database and table, we are using "EnableNotifications()" and "EnableTableForNotifications()" methods, as shown below. System.Web.Caching.SqlCacheDependencyAdmin.EnableNotifications(CS) System.Web.Caching.SqlCacheDependencyAdmin.EnableTableForNotifications(CS, "tblProducts"); Alternatively, to enable SqlCacheDependency on the database and table, we can use a command line tool, aspnet_regsql.exe. Open visual studio command prompt and execute the following 2 commands To enable SqlCacheDependency on the "Sample" database: aspnet_regsql -ed -E -d Sample To enable SqlCacheDependency on "tblProducts" table in "Sample" database: aspnet_regsql -et -E -d Sample -t tblProducts If you need to understand the purpose of -et, -E, -d, -t, use the help, by typing the following command aspnet_regsql /? Finally, in web.config specify database connection string and SqlCacheDependency. Notice that, we have set pollTime="2000". pollTime attribute specifies the frequency, at which, asp.net is going to check the database for changes. This time is in milli-seconds. Since, we have specified 2000 milli-seconds, asp.net is going to check the database for changes every 2 seconds. The default is 500 milli-seconds. Run the application and when we click "Get Products" button for the first time, data is loaded from database. Click again, the data should be loaded from cache. Now, execute the following UPDATE query. Update tblProducts set Name='Laptops' where Id = 1 Now, click the button again, and notice that the data is loaded from the database, as existing data is removed from cache.

Part 24 of Building a Social Network: Feed Broker (golang, sql)

04:16
Part 24 of building a social network for anime and manga fans. CockroachDB as the SQL database and Go as the back-end language. This is getting realtime. We use Server-Sent Events for this. WebSockets are more popular, but since we only need one way streaming... This is more ease to understand. It just keep a connection alive, and flush with each write. The concept of broker is taken from Ismael Celis https://robots.thoughtbot.com/writing-a-server-sent-events-server-in-go Please, read the post. Basically, the broker struct stores some clients and a single notifier in which you send some data. The broker fan-outs that data to all the clients. The clients are stored in a map instead of an array or slice to just use the "delete" function which is more easy 😊 I just modified it a little and added the "subscribe" function instead of using "new" and "closing" clients channels. Also, in the case of the feed broker, each client has an userID that allow us to filter to which client we'll send data. Very important. I didn't record this, but I improved the HTTP server with gracefully shutdown and some timeouts for best-practices, but those timeouts are grobal to the server. When using streaming, remember to not set write timeouts. https://github.com/nicolasparada/nakama/blob/876741d8212b88847981b3b3d6343e56f7b3230c/main.go#L107 Also, when checking if the client accepts text/event-stream, use strings.Contains instead of strings.HasPrefix.
