What is BLOCKCHAIN? The best explanation of blockchain technology

06:27
Blockchain explained in plain English Understanding how blockchain works and identifying myths about its powers are the first steps to developing blockchain technologies. Blockchain is an algorithm and distributed data structure for managing electronic cash without a central administrator among people who know nothing about one another. Originally designed for the crypto-currency Bitcoin, the blockchain architecture was driven by a radical rejection of at (government-guaranteed) money and bank-controlled payments. Blockchain is a special instance of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs), almost all of which have emerged in Bitcoin's wake. HOW DOES BLOCKCHAIN WORK? Blockchain is a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) that was invented to support the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. Bitcoin was motivated by an extreme rejection of government-guaranteed money and bank-controlled payments. The developer of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto envisioned people spending money without friction, intermediaries, regulation or the need to know or trust other parties. Technically, the original blockchain is separable from Bitcoin, but this report will show that the blockchain design is so specific to Bitcoin that it's not a good fit for much else. The central problem in electronic cash is Double Spend. Because pure electronic money is just data, nothing stops a currency holder from trying to spend it twice. Blockchain solves the Double Spend problem without a digital reserve fund or similar form of umpire. Blockchain monitors and verifies Bitcoin transactions by calling upon a decentralized network of volunteer-run nodes to, in effect, vote on the order in which transactions occur. The network's algorithm ensures that each transaction is unique. Video created by the Centre of International Governance Innovation.

The use of Blockchain in Finance

13:57
Presentation from Josep Grau on the Deep Learning in Finance Summit, London 23 - 23 September 2016 speaking about the use of Blockchain in Finance. Blockchain has the potential to disrupt multiple industries and make processes, more democratic, secure, transparent, and efficient. Entrepreneurs, startup companies’ investors, global organizations and governments have all identified Blockchain as a disruptive opportunity to change the current paradigm. Banks are not characterized for being neither agile nor fast when embracing new technologies due to their legacy system. However, times are changing and new technologies are being offered. In order to adapt to new times and shifting to more scalable systems and interconnected world, banks will have to adapt to new technologies and embrace changes easily. But, is this shift feasible? Josep did his bachelor on electrical engineering and a master in telecommunication engineering in Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Due to his motivation on having a positive impact on the world and willing to contribute to create sustainable value for the society, Josep moved to Sweden in order to do a Master on Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management by KTH Royal Institute in Stockholm, where he wrote his master thesis on “Strategic innovation in financial sector: Blockchain and the case of Spanish banks”.

Global Blockchain Technologies’ Shidan Gouran on the Disruptive X2 Games Merger

12:29
"We are merging with X2 Games which is a gaming company focused on blockchain applications in the gaming industry. It was started by two pioneers in that space, Nolan Bushnell, who started Atari and then Chuck E. Cheese and who has had a illustrious career in the gaming sector apart from Atari, and Zai Ortiz who is a lead operational person and has worked on amazing projects in the animation and gaming space. He is the guy who did the animations for the Marvel movies." States Shidan Gouran, CEO & President of Global Blockchain Technologies Corp. (CSE: BLOC), in an interview with InvestorIntel Corp. CEO Tracy Weslosky. Tracy Weslosky: Congratulations. Let us just start with your big deal here with X2.  Shidan Gouran: Thanks very much Tracy. Thanks for the congratulations. We are merging with X2 Games which is a gaming company focused on blockchain applications in the gaming industry. He is the guy who did the animations for the Marvel movies. Zai and Nolan are people that we have been speaking to for close to a year now, actually a bit more than a year. I have been really working on getting them involved with one of our projects called Game Galaxy. We have become very good friends. We just realized that there is so much synergies. Our visions are so aligned as far as where the entertainment and media sector can really benefit from blockchains. It just came down to it we were like, well, why do we not actually merge because as an incubator we really need good operational staff to manage the verticals that we create anyways? That has always been the plan from day 1, to find the best of breed people to manage these projects that we develop and to work with them. We have that in Zai and Nolan. I am very excited about what we have announced today. Tracy Weslosky: I have so many questions. Undoubtedly your stock is going to skyrocket. We need stories like this from the CSE. This is very exciting. Can you tell me how you two met? What was the occasion?  Shidan Gouran: I reached out to everybody who was involved in the gaming and applications of blockchains to the gaming space very early on.  I found out that Nolan and Zai were doing stuff in that space so I reached out to them. Introduced myself and said, well, this is what we are doing, let us align ourselves and work together on building something great. Game Galaxy is a consortium of gaming companies that are building a common exchange and a common underlying cryptocurrency for trading virtual goods inside of games. That is only one small piece of what we are doing. It is a big piece because that is potentially 400 million users that will be using this platform out of all the members of the consortium that we have together. What X2 is doing is even more interesting because they are actually developing what will hopefully be the main wallet inside of games. It is way more advanced than anything I have seen out there. It is something they can share with a lot of people because of where they are located and who they are obviously as far as business development. They are the perfect people to really tackle that for the gaming industry. The synergies were amazing. They are building solutions for keeping track of competitions...to access the complete interview, click here Disclaimer: Global Blockchain Technologies Corp. is an advertorial member of InvestorIntel Corp. #Blockchain #X2Games #GlobalBlockchain

IoT Blockchain Convergence

05:33
Short video slide about the convergence of The Internet of Things(IoT) and the blockchain. Produced by: http://complexitylabs.io Twitter: https://goo.gl/ZXCzK7 Facebook: https://goo.gl/P7EadV LinkedIn: https://goo.gl/3v1vwF Transcription: The internet is evolving into a new technology paradigm based around smart systems, the blockchain, platforms, and IoT in the coming years, these technologies will interact and converge in new and unpredictable ways The convergence of IoT and blockchain will be a major part of this evolution, enabling new automated service systems and business models... but many unresolved issues remain IOT Internet of Things is the merging of our engineered physical environment with information systems to create smart adaptive objects and environments... it is a fast-growing, increasingly complex network of connected physical systems that are able to process information and communicate peer to peer in order to enable common services. These devices are becoming increasingly ubiquitous ranging from autonomous vehicles to sensors monitoring industrial processes, to smart homes and smart cities. IoT is growing rapidly, according to Gartner the global IoT network will connect 26 billion devices by 2020. The development of an IOT infrastructure to our economies will probably be the greatest engineering challenge of our time... dealing with the sheer amount of data due to come on-stream and security are primary concerns... before mainstream Internet-of-Things adoption can really take hold in a safe and sustainable fashion, these, among other issues, will need to be resolved. Blockchain The blockchain is a secure distributed database for recording transactions... millions of computers networked to create a distributed database for recording and authenticating exchanges of value. With the blockchain, value of any kind can be exchanged directly peer to peer without a centralized authority to record and validate the transaction. The blockchain can provide an automated and secure transaction infrastructure for next generation IoT systems... in its capacity to track billions of connected devices and enable the frictionless processing of transactions and coordination between devices. This decentralized approach would eliminate single points of failure, bottlenecks and potentially make data and transactions more secure.... creating a more resilient ecosystem for devices to run on. Likewise, it would automate transactions, enabling fully autonomous service systems; reduce cost and reduce settlement time from days to seconds One example of an IoT Blockchain system is Slock, a door lock that is connected to a smart contract on the blockchain that controls when and who can open the lock. “The owner of a Slock can set a deposit amount and a price for renting his property, and the user will pay that deposit through a transaction to the Ethereum blockchain, thereby getting permission to open and close that smart lock through their smart phone.” - Christoph Jentzsch Such technology bridges the blockchain and the physical world by making automated smart contracts, thus enabling the frictionless and automated temporary exchange of assets such as bikes, parking lots or rooms. "Smart contracts, a feature of “Bitcoin 2.0” technologies such as Ethereum, could soon operate on the Internet of Things (IoT), control objects in the physical world, and power a new decentralized version of the sharing economy, for example sharing services similar to Uber and Airbnb that operate in pure P2P mode without centralized management." - Bitcoin Magazine Leveraging blockchain for IoT offers new ways to automate business processes and build distributed autonomous service systems... "The true value of the underlying technology -- the blockchain -- has only just begun to be explored, and potential applications to the Internet of Things and Smart Systems are vast."

Introduction to Bitcoin, Blockchain, Distributed Ledger Technologies & Financial Inclusion

01:02:28
Presenter: Dr Leon Perlman Head, DFS Observatory, Columbia Business School Distributed ledger technology (DLT) is a new type of secure database or ledger for keeping track of who owns a financial, physical, or electronic asset, but without the need for a centralized controller of this data. Instead, the data is shared in a peer-to-peer manner across multiple sites, countries, or institutions A prime example of a DLT in commercial use is called ‘blockchain’ technology. It has the potential to: - Speed up and reduce the cost of transactions - Give individuals more control over their personal data - Reduce or remove the need for costly intermediaries - Provide secure ‘smart’ legal contracts that execute without user intervention - Bolster data security by providing almost real-time evidence of tampering, and - Revolutionize regulatory compliance. - This webinar is an introductory primer to all these technologies and their application in financial inclusion. It will touch on: - Their numerous strengths and weaknesses - The varied commercial and public-good applications that have been identified The implications of the disintermediation of traditional centralized controllers of data - Concerns in respect of the technology designs and their consistency - Issues in implementation and usage Security of DLTs - A sample of evolving legal and regulatory challenges and uncertainties around DLTs - Applications that may be particularly useful for financial inclusion, including remittances & identity systems, clearing and settlement, and land registration.

The Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology Explained

06:16
A block chain is a transaction database shared by all nodes participating in a system based on the Bitcoin protocol. A full copy of a currency's block chain contains every transaction ever executed in the currency. With this information, one can find out how much value belonged to each address at any point in history. ------------------------------------------------------------------- BUY BITCOIN SAFELY HERE: http://bit.ly/BuyBitcoinNow ------------------------------------------------------------------- REGISTER FOR A COINBASE ACCOUNT: http://bit.ly/CoinbaseBitcoinSignup ------------------------------------------------------------------- Every block contains a hash of the previous block. This has the effect of creating a chain of blocks from the genesis block to the current block. Each block is guaranteed to come after the previous block chronologically because the previous block's hash would otherwise not be known. Each block is also computationally impractical to modify once it has been in the chain for a while because every block after it would also have to be regenerated. These properties are what make double-spending of bitcoins very difficult. The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. Honest generators only build onto a block (by referencing it in blocks they create) if it is the latest block in the longest valid chain. "Length" is calculated as total combined difficulty of that chain, not number of blocks, though this distinction is only important in the context of a few potential attacks. A chain is valid if all of the blocks and transactions within it are valid, and only if it starts with the genesis block. For any block on the chain, there is only one path to the genesis block. Coming from the genesis block, however, there can be forks. One-block forks are created from time to time when two blocks are created just a few seconds apart. When that happens, generating nodes build onto whichever one of the blocks they received first. Whichever block ends up being included in the next block becomes part of the main chain because that chain is longer. More serious forks have occurred after fixing bugs that required backward-incompatible changes. Blocks in shorter chains (or invalid chains) are not used for anything. When the bitcoin client switches to another, longer chain, all valid transactions of the blocks inside the shorter chain are re-added to the pool of queued transactions and will be included in another block. The reward for the blocks on the shorter chain will not be present in the longest chain, so they will be practically lost, which is why a network-enforced 100-block maturation time for generations exists. These blocks on the shorter chains are often called "orphan" blocks. This is because the generation transactions do not have a parent block in the longest chain, so these generation transactions show up as orphan in the listtransactions RPC call. Several pools have misinterpreted these messages and started calling their blocks "orphans". In reality, these blocks have a parent block, and might even have children. Because a block can only reference one previous block, it is impossible for two forked chains to merge. • How do Bitcoin Transactions Work? http://www.coindesk.com/information/how-do-bitcoin-transactions-work/ ------------------------------------------------------------------- DID YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy this video? 01:48
"Blockchain" is the name of a disruptive technology that may be integrated into multiple areas. It is disruptive because it allows businesses to use a completely new method when processing digital transactions. The Harvard Business Review conducted a two-year research project exploring how blockchain technology can securely move and store host "money, titles, deeds, music, art, scientific discoveries, intellectual property, and even votes". Furthermore, major portions of the financial industry are implementing distributed ledgers for use in banking, and according to a September 2016 IBM study, this is occurring faster than expected. The credit and debits payments company MasterCard has added three blockchain-based APIs for programmers to use in developing both P2P and B2B payment systems. What impact will this technology have on your business?
